Spent Thursday at the Norwalk boat show with my father and then Thursday night it was off to my happy place for the last hurrah...

What a great weekend!! What a fantastic way to end the summer...

Me too...So sad...I'm coming out tomorrow....:smt009

I too am a little depressed with the season coming to an end. I slept on the boat Friday night and went to the boat show on Saturday. Sunday I took my wife for maybe the last cruise of the year and had lunch in Norwalk after cruising the boat show from the water. The killer was when I returned it was the last day at our dock bar (Captains Cove). At least we had a good year here in New England.

When do you guys make the decision to stop boating? Is it a temperature thing or something else?

Having lived in Florida my entire life this is just crazy to me.

I stop boating for the season when the harbors close on Nov 1.

our Marina closes 10/31 so we have to be out by then. we also store underground and it fills fast so we plan to haul out possibly next Sunday as i have a few things to do before putting it away. even though the temps underground don't go below 55* i still winterize just to get the dirty water out and as insurance in case we get any freezing days later march or early may after we bring it home

Oh... so sorry for you guys.... my high season starts just now!!! nice weather for the following 7 months :smt038

For me, since I winterize myself at my house (I have a trailer) I find the end of October the leaves are coming down like crazy and stain everything quickly, so usually mid October I pull the boat and try to winterize the same day. I cover it at my house the same day if possible. I have winterized in November but washing the boat, flushing, etc is not fun when its cold!
Also - there are not a lot of takers for a boat ride around here when its chilly...

Planning a trip up the CT River in about 2 weeks as our last weekend on the boat. However I don't feel as pressured as in previous years to winterize by a certain date as I plan on leaving her in a slip for the winter. Figured I have until early Nov.

Yeah, having to give up boating for a few months sure sucks. We blow out the fresh water system, but that's all we do because we use the boat during the winter. Our last cruise of the year is usually around Christmas time and the first one is our annual New Year's Day cruise.

Thank heaven for gallon water jugs for flushing the heads.

Oh my!

I'm specifically planning a trip to Caladesi Island for the first weekend in December just so it's cooler.

It's pretty much a temperature and weather decision. There's no science to it -- just wrap it up before the freezing temps hit and whenever the weather is too crappy to be enjoyable. Also, the DNR pulls the buoys on our lake sometime in October....no matter how well you know the lake, it's not safe to boat without the buoys.

We pick a sunny warm day in October. Clean the water line up with acid and do a good job of cleaning the hullsides and wipe the entire boat down when it is in the barn. I do a good job of washing the boat the day before she is stored and pull into the Travel Hoist at 8:30 am the next morning. Put away dry and clean by noon. Do all the maintenance work the week before. Weather is really not a factor for that although it is nicer to do it with the aft curtain off and the sun pouring into the bilge. Sunny and warm is the best time to do this so we watch the weather.

Hell it's the nicest time of year to boat here right now! Just left San Francisco yesterday after a week down there, look at the water and mid-80's temps.

Listen buddy gotta be in it to win it! And oh boy did I win! And the grand prize is............... 2 more women to tell me what to do, a hefty weekly child support payment and oh yea lawyer bills out the a22 but I love my baby girl to pieces and not pulling out has always been the most rewarding for me.
