Well, hello all, I have not been on since last year, but it is good to be back. Last season I noticed my voltage on the the port motor was low while underway ~13.5V - 13-8V. I said to myself, self, I should probably change the alternator before it goes at the worst possible time, but I never got around to it and so I put the boat away in October.
Today, while attempting to get everything up and warm - changing oil etc, the port motor sounded like it had a slipping belt X10.. I knew something was ceased up... I went down there and sure enough the alternator was locked up... I broke it free and it started spinning again. While the belt was off, I cranked the motor just to make sure it was that, thankfully, it was.
While attempting to take off alternator, I snapped the bottom holding bracket, so I had to order the bracket ($28) and a new OEM Mercruiser alternator Part #863077-1 for $200. In boat dollars, fairly cheap, BUT, has anybody tried alternators from DBelectrcal? They have the same alternator, even the same part number, for $80. Yes it is marine rated, it is not a auto alternator.

I was wondering if anybody has used them before. I may just order one to keep when the other one goes. Any thoughts?
Thanks and a happy safe 2017 season to everyone!
