My temp gauge is stuck at 145. Doesn't move. Up or down. On or off. Any suggestions? It is a 1990 220 CC with the 5.7. It has dual temp senders. I was going to try replacing the sending units first and see if that takes care of it. What do temp gauges normally do when the sending units go out - stay at a fixed temp or drop to zero? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would check the connections on the back of the gauge and on the sending units.

When I turn my key off, it stays on 145. After it cools down, just a turn of the key and it drops.

Yes. . .my most SERIOUS searay complaint.

What is up with the analogue gauges holding last value when an engine shuts down? HOW STUPID IS THAT? :smt017

This is not an idle complaint: I have twin engines. I have experienced an engine stall once or twice. YOU CANNOT IMMEDIATELY TELL WHICH ENGINE SHUT DOWN BY LOOKING AT THE GAUGES!! :smt021 The dead engine still shows 1500 rpm and good oil pressure when not running!

The only indication of engine shutdown is the audible oil pressure alarm (key on, engine not running), and perhaps loss of power (depending on what you are doing). :smt101 :smt101

To the question at hand: Have you tried tapping the gauge with the engine running? I have a tach that sticks once in a while. Two taps with one finger (not a hammer :smt021 ) fixes it.

Comsnark, your reply helped solve my problem. When I said it was stuck - on or off. I meant battery on or off. After reading your post, I went out, turned the battery on and then turned the key on. The gauge immediately dropped. This is a new boat to me and I'm in the process of learning it's traits. I agree. I have to wonder about the logic of having gauges hold their last value. And I can see in your situation it could/can be a real problem. Anyways, thank you for your post.
