When I was getting my boat shrink wrapped I noticed a few larger boats in the marina had teflon bunker covers rather then carpet . I need to replace the bunker covers and was wondering if any body has changed to this instead of carpet.

I've always thought "bunker" was a Type of fish that was used for bait. Why one would cover it in Teflon or carpet for that matter is beyond me. LOL

Well, I guess that (above) saves me from trying to think of something witty... good thing, too... it would of taken a while!

Yup - I do (have "teflon" covers... they're just plastic, by the way). Quite a few of my customers have changed over, as well. Probably even a bunch of threads about this here on CSR. The type of bunk slick you'll use depends on the size of your bunks. Some slicks just sit on top, while others wrap around the sides, as well. They're not quite as slippery as rollers, but awful darn close. So take precautions when launching - leave the winch strap and safety chain attached until boat is in the water - which is normal practice, anyways.

OK, I give up. I thought "Bunker" referred to a heavy grade of diesel that megayachts and ships use. What the heck is a Bunker?

Not having any direct experience ... but I have always wondered about these coverings. But be carefull about the one listed earilier... The instructions state...'NOTE: If you are concerned about Scratching your Gel Coat Hull, DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT.

The boat I seen with them was a bigger go fast boat . The Teflon was about 3/8 thick and was the width of the bunker board.

Even carpet can scratch. Well, it's more like "dull" the surface. But the bunk slicks won't do any more or less damage than carpet. However, with carpet, there's the possibility that sand or small rocks can get trapped in the carpet.

Yup, that's one of the styles of plastic bunk slicks. There's a few.

Still with the "bunker" and "teflon", huh?

The former owner of my trailer simply used composite (plastic) decking boards...
