Tear into swim platform or not?

Ken, also looking at your props, is your port OD counter rotating? I can't remember if you converted it or not. If it is, how do you like the handling with it and also the 4blade props? Just curuious, what pitch are they?

Sorry I didn't see this when you posted it. Yes I have a counter rotating drive on my starboard side, I replaces it last year in the spring with a brand new drive, it was cheaper than a rebuilt drive. I do believe the 4 blade props are the same pitch as the recommended factory 3 blade, both of these changes make the boat handle and preform like a whole different boat. I can backup straight, and I get on plane a lot faster and can hold it at lower speeds.

I also put the last for the fiberglass on my swim platform today, close to 6 gallons of resin went into the rebuild. I will do the gelcoat on the bottom in the morning and then flip it once it is dry and do the other side. I am going to write this up in a word file send it to Dave for his input and some pictures and then post it in the modification section. This has been a great project, dusty but the add depth will be a very welcome addition to the boat.

Well my platform is done and I can tell you that by adding 18" to the center of the platform, replacing the wood and adding a lot more fiberglass than the factory put in, it now weighs 140 lbs.

Now to get it mounted on the boat.

Mabey they can use that in the movie -you and some buddies drinking beer and standing in the water trying to put a oversized swim platform on,i hope its a comedy.

Well, platform is all done... Funny, one of the brackets was lower than the other three. Didn't notice until I actually set the platform on the boat and bolted it down. A block of wood epoxied to death fixed that right up. (All the hideous overspray, etc., has been cleaned) Gettin' her wet tomorrow morning, 5/15, right on schedule!

It would be but we have a fork lift that will do all the heavy work once the boat in on dry land, trouble is the 6 days of rain. I will post some pictures once they are done filming, they are finished at our marina but might have to redo one scene. Burt Reynolds part is done and he was heading for home this weekend.

That looks good Rick, by chance did you weigh it before and after?

Thanks Ken. Didn't weigh before or after, but, the finished project was much lighter. It took a long time, because the weather's been so crappy in Buffalo. Epoxy took longer to set up, etc. And because of the rain, you could only work in the 10 minute window of sun mother nature's given us so far! Hopefully after THIS week's rain, I can go in Saturday.:smt038

I know what you mean, I live an hour north of Toronto and the weather has been terrible. I went through 3 gallons of Kerosene to heat the garage so the resin would dry. Now that I am done we went to a wedding this weekend down by Detroit and now that I am home and eager to get it finish 6 more days of rain is forecast.:smt013

I've just unstrapped my boat from the trailer, and when the water gets high enough, I'll just float it down to the river, and that'll be that. Should be any day now...
