Taylor made windshield gasketing

screw cover gasket from american marine has been on the boat for a couple of weeks now, looks good and is holding up very well. Think i had posted the part number before but will put it in again. I used their part number 717 on my 97 250da

Taylor made told me i needed 20ft to go around the framing. I ordered 25 and had a bunch left of not sure what the extra was. didn't measure

I have tried on several occasions to reach Taylor Made by phone and email. They have not replied or answered their phone... So I called American Marine and was helped on the first attempt. I ordered the TP-717 gasket (25 feet for about $43 plus regular UPS shipping). http://www.americanmarine.com/parts-gaskets.html

At that price, it's worth a go. I'll post pics when I install it. Hopefully this works as a nice alternative to Taylor Made.

Taylor has always answered when I've called and been very helpful and prompt in shipping, albeit expensive.

Since we are on the topic of windshield gaskets, does anyone have a lead on the rubber seal used under the windshield? Mine has caulking that will need to re-done eventually. I have noticed on 2006 and up 280s and 260s I have seen, rather than caulk it is a rubber seal between the windshield and the deck. Sea Ray says to call Taylor. Taylor says it is foam, but I don't think they understand what I am tallking about. Any ideas?

Bumping up a real old thread here but the question is: Did it work?

Sorry Greg. I got so busy enjoying the boat that I only got around to replacing the porthole screens & gaskets with the retrofit kits last August. I will take up this cause again this year.

OK no problem. I need to replace mine too so I will keep an eye out. Looks like some here are using other sources at a great price. If they are happy that'll work too, we'll see how it goes.

Jason:

The gasket under the windscreen is in most installs is adhesive face foam tape. It is first applied to the underside of the screen mullion, then the screen section as placed and screw tacked for fit adjustment. Once the reset is accurately placed, the screws are driven in through the foam tape in the process. This provides the weather seal at the base of the screen. If the tape is properly set it will not show from the foredeck. Want better weather seal protection? Run a fine bead of caulk in the deck mullion join using the foam tape as a backer.

You must completely remove the windscreen to make this all work.

Well, it was worth a try! The rubber gasket from American Marine did not fit my 1997 290SDA Sundancer. It was not quite big enough to "grab" both sides. They make one larger, but it would be too big. So I guess I'll try to reach Taylor Made again...

I am having them send me a sample of the larger size. My gap is the same size as yours 7/8". Their larger size is about 1 1/4" meaing 3/8 or so total extra width, but the grooves are 1/8 each, leaving extra 1/8 to wide give or take. I think that will make a nice tight fit and bow out slightly. Not sure how it will work at the vertical angles though. We'll see.

What is on mine is akin to a closed cell rubber rod that is larger than the track and is stuffed in to present a smooth convex face to the weather. It is not water tight and water and drains down hill. It's function is cosmetic.

Just ordered mine from Taylor Made. The 1994 370EC uses two different part numbers:

8349030 @$3.70 per foot (I ordered 14' which is 1' longer than spec) =$51.80

4110016 @$5 per foot (I ordered 17' which is 1' longer than spec) =$85.00
Tax & Shipping= $45.00

So my total was $181.80.

John: I need to replace mine. Why two different parts? I measured and didn't find a difference. But maybe I measured wrong. Is the front windshield a different part than the sides? Thanks.

I need to change the windshield vent gaskets on my SD 350 -91
Does anyone know where to find it, is it also from Taylormade?

The sides are slightly different from the windshield.

I bought them from Pompette/Bomar. They are the OEM : http://www.pompanette.com/home
I believe it was around $23.00 a window, well worth it in my opinion. The screens can now be replaced as they are the new style plastic framed pieces. They pop right into the groove in the new gasket. the old style was one piece gasket and screen. Some guys on this site have refurbed the old ones on the cheap by prying out the gasket then siliconing in a piece of screen from home depot. Too much work IMHO to only have the original set-up again! I will try and find the model # of the parts I used and re-post it but, if you call with the dimensions and shape they will tell you what it is as they did with me!
