My five year old 270 BrovoIII 7.4 liter has had occational salt water use (less than 40 hours out of 220) and i have always flushed the engine after salt water use. The water pump has already gone out and the mechanic says there is significant rust damage and soon will be sign $ for repairs. sea ray did not offer closed cooling (and still doesn't) to protect my $100,000 investment. Wouldn't closed cooling have protected me from such clostly repairs after only 5 years of ownership? Maybe they just want me to buy a new boat every 5 years?

sounds to me like your mechanic is trying to screw you, especially if you have used it very littel in salt and have flushed it everytime.
just my opinion
