I have a 1998 SD 290 and the railings are simply too low to be useful for steadying us when we walk to the bow. Is there a taller replacement rail?

I believe you mean 290 DA which stands for Sundancer. SD is for sun deck boats.
As for railings, they would need to be custom made...

It's a style issue. SR felt the lower rails looked better. One of the several reasons we moved to Tiara was the ease of using the boat as we got older. The Tiara walk around areas are much wider, the rails taller, grab handles where you need them and the shore power connections are in the cockpit where you can sit in a chair and hook things up.

The rails as is are simply lifesavers, unfortunately not practical. I thought by this time there may have been an aftermarket fix but apparently not.
