I was too young to remember it, but this is one of the legends of Bob Gibson (pitcher for the Cards and a Harlem Globe Trotter):
Gibson was on the mound and an opposing batter was taking his time digging in. Gibson calmly left the mound and walked to home plate. The batter looked up in surprise and stopped digging in. Gibson said "No, no keep digging. The hole's gotta be deeper if they are gonna bury you in it". Gibby hit him in the back with his first pitch.
