Well we just paid the sales tax and 500 other things to tag the boat and trailor. No one told us the trailor only had 30 days to be taged, so we had 50.00 in late fees. Between state taxes, local taxes, and all that other crap they charged us for, it cost us 1600.00. And on top of that we have to put those ugly number on the boat now. Ours have to be 3 inch block numbers and letters, so we cant even make them look good. Oh well, we are off to the lake today. It is supposed to be 76 today and 80 tomorrow. I almost loaded up the tube, but the water would be very cold. I guess the whole idea is not to fall off though right. Just thought I would vent a little about the 1600.00 since we were told it would only cost us 650.00 for sale tax. They were right it was 650 for local, and 700 for state. Any one else going out today or tomorrow?

We don't have to put license on our trailers here in KY.

You've had the boat out without registration numbers? Good thing it is early in the season! Are you sure abou the block lettering? I know they have to be a certain size but I think you would be able to select a readable design.

Ours are suppose to be block letters as well. The old service manager at our Marina did it and he said they usually do not bother you unless you do something wrong and they can read them. Here is what we went with.

Try this website:

http://www.decalcity.com/

They have a program which lets you choose different fonts and colors for the reg numbers. Then you can preview it before you buy. I have non-standard numbers on my boat and have never had a problem.

In NC you don't pay any sales tax on used boats bought from private and new boats or used boats from dealers are capped at 3% or $2K no matter what value.

I did the same thing First Born did on our 248 Vista ... nice font lettering with a shadow to compliment the hull color and the ID actually looks cool.

I got mine from Overton's

Alex,
I think your letters are a nice compromised for "block Letters"

Here are mine, picture before we took our first ride in our new to us boat May 2006.

The gold matches the boat and the white set it out to make it visible

<offtopic>oooohhhh boat lift under a shelter oooooohhhhhh. . .nice  </offtopic>

But a "block style" doesn't mean it can't be 1 of 49 millions fonts and be legal. ;) There are plenty of fonts that you can do in a block style.

All of the boat number sites use the correct ones so you can see what it'll look like.

Yeah, it was nice slip and reasonable ... $2100/year with free electricity and water ... only problem was the huge amounts of spider droppings .... I actually kept a canvas over the entire bow because it was so bad.

Now we have this ... our slip here is almost spider free, just luck, some neighboring boats get it bad (the 38AC especially)

It's an old picture, and I forgot what font this is, but it is a block style. Of course you have to go by what you're states requirements are, although I think they're pretty consistent.

Mine are black with gold outline.
