I am flying out Monday to Table Rock and staying at the Wyndham. (So I'm told). We are renting a boat for a day or two since my wife would not let me tow ours 17 hours. Any advise on fishing or where to or better where not to go on the lake? Any advice is welcome.

Yeah, I'm sure the knowledge base in the 43 page Table Rock thread would have been of little help to you. You were wise to start a new one.

I started at page 43 and went backwords. It seemed like a few guys chatting it up. I did get some good info on Buzzard Bar however. LOL

Sorry...I don't fish, so I dont have much info to help you. One of the guys I work with fishes alot, but he is on vacation next week. Since is has been pretty hot here recently, I know some are fishing at night. I hope you enjoy your trip, and enjoy Table Rock. We went down to Buzzard Bar last Saturday night and it was packed....so we left.

Where are you renting a boat from? During the week, there will not be much boat traffic. The water temp is nice an warm.

We are renting a boat from the State Park. We will be staying just 5 minutes from there. I'm told by the wife.
I have been working double time this summer and my wonderful wife has made all the plans. I was hoping for a little info on the lake so as to help my in laws have the best experience while were there. Sounds like Buzzard Bar is a bit too crowded. Any place else near the state park area. Thanks so much for the info.:smt038

Not sure about fishing, there should be guides or guidebooks available to help.

There is no "bad" part of the lake, at least that I have found in 20-some years of boating there (on vacations). While we mostly stay up in the James River area, we have been down towards Big Cedar several times.

The entire lake is beautiful. The lake is long and winding with lots of forks. You can easily get confused and turned around and travel the wrong direction for quite awhile if you aren't careful. Get a map, and note the "point numbers" along several of the points (these should be printed on the maps too). The numbers are on large metal signs at various points on the lakeshore.

There are some boating hazards, especially along the inside of the former river channels. There are some in the middle as well (where hill tops are just under water - or above - it depends on lake levels). Most hazards are marked. Just carefully watch the terrain so you have a sense of what it looks like underwater, and stay towards the "cliff side" and try to avoid "cutting through" between the main shore and nearby islands as it can be shallow there as well. Remember, all those hills and valleys you can see exist below the water as well.

And be prepared for S-L-O-W traffic if you go into Branson. It can be a nightmare at times. Get a map and study the "relief routes", as they will help a great deal. Most visitors don't take the time to figure them out, and therefore get stuck on the main roads.

State Park is a nice area. Big Cedar , where Buzzard Bar is located, is just a bit south of State Park by water. I would think Buzzard Bar would not be as crowded during the week. There are a couple of other restaraunts at Big Cedar.

Another place, not far by water, but fairly pricey dining is Chateau....

If you have specific questions, let us know....and I will try to answer them. The weather is supposed to be nice and hot

Thank you all so much. I am hitting the sack to get up at 4am to catch my flight. I have my Garmin for the roads when I get there and it has the lake on it so that should be helpful on the water. Not as good as my garmin on my 215ec but it will have to do for a few days. Thanks again for the Cliff side advise and in between the islands shallows. That is not something I have to deal with on the Potomac.
Happy boating to all !!!

What a beautiful lake. We only had the morning to play due to rain but we had a blast. I cannot get over the depth all over. 50 ft all over and then some. In the Potomac we cruise at full throttle in 4 feet deep water for long periods.
We were drift fishing near the shore when my 12 year old said " Dad there's a rock behind us." I told her impossible cause we were in 25 foot of water. I looked back and saw the top of a tree. We laughed and enjoyed the sight.
Thanks for the great info.
Stay safe in the drink. -- Tim

Tim...glad you had a good trip. If you were close to Table Rock Dam, it is over 200 ft. deep. You definetly have to watch out for the trees on Table Rock. I hope you had a good time.
