I'm looking at a 2000 340 dancer without a systems monitor. I noticed that all the 340s with a monitor, have it in the same spot. And there's a systems monitor breaker in the bilge on all the boats with or without the monitor. Does anyone know if all these 1999 to 2002 340s are prewired with a harness so that the boats without the monitor can purchase the panel to plug the harness in? Or is this just wishful thinking?
Thank you.

You may want to contact Searay with that question. Wish I had more to offer. Good luck.

Scott, begging your pardon (you being a technical contributor and all) but my systems monitor (the worthless type) still works after 21 seasons. It saved my port transmission when it illuminated on the way to Atlantic City Rendezvous I. Also tells me when the bilge pump(s) come on - this brought me to the realization that the aft pump float switch was sticking while coming up on plane. Allowed me to replace the switch before the pump burnt out. Could also come in handy if you are taking on water while underway and would otherwise have not known. - there's a light for each pump, including the "Hi Water" pump.

I know, they're just a series of idiot lights at first glance. But the systems monitor panel does serve as a primitive albeit very useful early warning system. I believe a 2000 340DA would have the older version rather than the smartcraft type.

Perhaps its beauty is it's simplicity :)

My "Welcome to Sea Ray" monitor system has worked since 2001.....and like Ron, has saved several bilge pump replacements by detecting a bad float switchs. Maybe we need to avoid generalizations here. I would not hesitate to replace mine with the same one.

But what do I know....?

I'll also state that the systems monitor panel on my 1998 330DA, 2002 380DA and 2003 410DA has worked well for me. On one occasion, I did have to replace a connector on the coax cable after I moved the monitor's location on my 380DA.

The original poster is talking specifically about a 2000 340DA without the systems monitor....which was an option in that model year. The Smartcraft systems view was not available in that model year.

I can't answer to the question if the vessel is prewired for the systems monitor. As mentioned above by Ron, I'd contact Sea Ray for that answer. There is more to the system monitor system then just the monitor at the dash. There is also the harness and the 'black box' down in the bilge. You can buy a replacement monitor from Flounder Pounder

The Systems Monitor on my 2006 320 is giving a "Data Link Failure" message which I posted last fall. My boat has SmartCraft also. My hope is it is only a ground connection problem but I may have to replace the unit which is most likely still available according to my dealer. Even if it is as troublesome as Scott says on newer boats like mine, I will still replace the unit since I want everything to work on my boat that came from the factory. Fpmarine.com had these units for sale last Fall for around $270 for my vintage boat.

Bob: That's the same problem I experienced after I relocated the systems monitor panel on my 2002 380DA. It turned out to be the coax connector....hence the 'data link failure' message. You may want to try wiggling the connections at the monitor and also down in the bilge to see if that has any affect. If it does, then simply try changing out the connectors.

If you look at the end of my post above, you will see where I inserted a hyper link to Flounder Pounder and the monitor....

Dom,
I bought a brand new CAT6 coax cable and ran it from the Systems Monitor unit on the helm to the bilge with the engine hatch open and it didn't fix the problem which is why I am having a Sea Ray tech look at it when I move my boat to the new marina next week. However, I just read the diagnostic on the fpmarine site which I hadn't seen before and it said something about disconnecting the coax and pressing the reset button. I did not do this. I don't have a multimeter or the knowlege to use one which is why I need them to check out the ground. After that I believe all that's left is replacing the unit which is the most expensive of the three potential causes of the problem.

1. It's smartcrap because it's yet another proprietary, doesn't play nicely with anything else, POS, IMHO. Data you can't access to use is useless data.
2. CAT 6 coax?

Jumping in here, is there a way to troubleshoot the "idiot light" panel? Most of my lights remain on. Bad circuit board?

...

Are you refering to the Systems Monitor (Sea Ray) or the SmartCraft unit (Mercruiser) here? If it's the latter, mine seems to play nicely with the Raymarine C80.
