When engine are under 2k RPM the sync gauge appears to be working correctly and matches the tachs but as you increase to 3200 RPM with tachs reading the same and motors sounding in sync and fuel usage gauge matching the sync gauge is buried to starboard .To get the sync gauge to straight up zero I need to push the starboard motor up to 4000 rpm which is obvious wrong.Do these gauges just go bad.Wire connections have been checked.

After doing all the troubleshooting test with a volt meter it turns out to be the more expensive part the sync. module

My 1989 SR and my 2001 SR had the same issue. At lower RPMs the engines were synch'd audibly and on the gauge. As rpm increased I had to have the needle on the gauge at about the 1 o'clock position to get the engines in synch to the ear. According to smartcraft, that means the port motor needs to run at around 50 RPM more. I gave up trying to figure it all out years ago.

Bad spark plug wires will cause the sync gauge to fluctuate.

Mine never fluctuated, on either boat. Rock steady to the point where I know where to settle up the needle at cruising RPM so that the audible resonation was zero.
