Trying to help out a fellow CSR Member
He has a 2002, 360 Sundancer.

Sync Gauge is pretty far off
About 500 RPM at idle and gets progressively further off as he increases RPM's
Any Suggestions?

This started shortly after he pulled off dash to check fuel gauges that were showing around 3/8 of a tank difference.

No Smart Craft
Analog Gauges only.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I starting to have a similar issue. Sometimes it's fine and other times it's off half way. I'm going to pull off the dash and check and clean all the connections and see if that helps.

Keep in mind some engines end up turning different RPMs due to prop differences, gearing, etc. Can he get to sync at all? Or is it just that the throttles aren't even or in a similar place as they once were?

Sync worked fine up until he pulled dash to try and check fuel gauge problem.
The throttles were in a very similar place when gauge was working.
Leads me to believe that it is in the connections.

Can feel the fact that when gauge is showing sync at higher RPM/Speed that the engines are definitely out of sync.

Going to try and clean all behind dash connections Thursday or Friday afteroon.

I had a similar problem but it got progressively worse with the sync guage needle eventually refusing to leave one side entirely.

I replaced the synchronizer module #E1507574 Teleflex Morse for diesel and the synchronizer now works perfectly. Cost was about $125. There is another model for gas engines and you will have to call Teleflex for the model number, etc. If you have a black device under the dash resembling a hockey puck with leads running to each tach and the synchronizer guage proper this item could be the root cause.

Thanks Warren
I will look at that for my friend tomorrow or Friday.
I did not realize there was another part to look at.

My sync gauge has been off as long as I've had this boat. At low rpm (<2000), it's dead on. ie: engines are audibly in sync and the gauge is straight up (12 o'clock). At higher RPMs it's way off. I have to use my ear but I've learned that when the needle is at about 2 o'clock when they are synchronized. Thought it was just an old boat thing.

Did you have a part number ?
I did not see anything listed on their site.
Did you call them direct?
Thanks

Umh, interested

I have just sent this request to Sea Ray;

I need to be able to trace out my synchronization gauge. I do not have a synchronize system, but I do have the gauge which functions based on the engine throttle settings for a center line when synced. It has quite working, it will read straight up when the starboard engine is not running, with it running it pegs to the left, if I throttle up the starboard engine it tries to peg harder to the left.

I need at this juncture Synchroizer reference 09-636 and Instrument panel ref dwg 09-900.

Is there a place I can order some of these schematics from?

I am hoping this is what I might be looking for?

Maybe these links will help some others. Now if I can just locate my module-- :smt100 I guess if possible I will try to follow the tach wires... but they are tie wrap bundled? :huh:

Teleflex code L TEL-1508370P 4-stroke engine
synchronizers are specifically designed for 4-stroke gasoline engines and Teleflex tachometers.

Look at the Tech SpecS link and then go to Links option on the right side and select;

I had a very similar issue with my AJ. I replaced the sync module and all was good. The sync module will be right behind your dash. It is appx 6 inches in diamter by 2 inches tall. There are multiple wire connection on the top. It is VERY easy to replace and is relatively cheap. I bought mine at FP Marine for $40 and had it within 2 days.

The sync module is a comparitive device that compares the signals directly from your engines. When one side of it goes bad, it will do what you are describing. It could also just be a loose or broken wire.
