I just purchased a 2005 280 Sundancer and I noticed the swim ladder hatch is missing the retention catch. I ordered a replacement based on the Sea Ray parts catalog (1118314 - CATCH, RBR SUNPAD HOLD-DOWN). When I received the part, I was surprised at the size. It doesn't appear to be tall enough and I don't know how it will attach. According to the parts catalog, the cup mounts on the lid. The cup has a threaded hole, but my lid is flat on the underside, with no evidence anything was ever attached to it. Was this cup originally held in place with an adhesive? Or maybe some sort of standoff? My boat has a rubber cylinder where the bullet side should be mounted. I assume this threads on in some way. I haven't tried removing it yet. Does anyone have any input or pictures?

I took a closer look at mine this weekend and found that the diagram is correct. The bullet is mounted on the bottom. Does anyone know what kind of mount the cup side uses to mount to the lid? I assume it is some sort of adhesive threaded boss.

From what I remember, it was just some sort of white, plastic spacer. It was glued to the lid and was there so the cup could be screwed into something. Wood would work for a while, till it got soft. Encapsulate it in epoxy and it will last quite a while. You'd have to figure out the correct thickness, but it's roughly an inch or so.

Thanks for the info. It's annoying that Sea Ray doesn't include that in their parts manual. I'll have to do some trial test fitting with a wooden spacer. Then fiber glass over it.

I might have access to something different than you, but the spacer does show up in the parts list. It's referred to as "CLEAT, LDPVC 1" X 3" RND SWMPLTFM LID" and the part number is 1544121. Sea Ray started to use a magnetic latch a few years ago, so you may not be able to get this part anymore, though.

I have a 240 Sundeck currently in for service that uses the same system. I don't know how accurate Sea Ray is with that 1" measurement, or if it changes from boat to boat, but... on the off chance that your hatch lid is pretty much the same...

-- The "cleat"/spacer measures exactly 3/4"
-- To help compare your hatch dimensions, the distance from the top surface of the hatch to the mounting surface of the ladder is 2-5/8". I measured this while the hatch was closed.

If you want, I can email you pics of what I measured - to double check.

Interesting. That is number 32 on mine, but the diagram points to a rectangular component. The description does appear to make sense as that spacer rather than the metal rectangular component. If your manual has that description, then it's likely the same. I'll reach out to MarineMax and ask about that part and if not, I'll run with the 3/4" and test fit it. Thanks for your help.

if you don't mind posting where you purchased your parts, i need to replave mine as well.
Thanks in advance.

@Vince BB I purchased the catch from marinemax. And I ended up purchasing a hockey puck to use as the spacer. It was a little on the thick side, so I used a belt sander to remove some material. I used some epoxy to adhere it in place and it has been holding strong.

What is a hockey puck made of? Interesting idea.

It's vulcanized rubber. Hopefully it doesn't degrade over time like the bullets do. Sea Ray used the same bullets under the aft seat and the black rubber comes off on your hands when you touch it. It also doesn't wash off easily, so the underside of my seat is stained from it.

That will not rot.
