I'm interviewing surveyors in the LI / CT area (Western Sound area) for my pending sale (sig below)

Any good or bad recommendations out there? Thanks!

This guy did my boat back in August before I bought it. Would highly recommend him.

If your insurance company is requiring the survey information make sure you use surveyor they recognize. SAMS or NAMS are the two I'm aware of. My insurance would only accept NAMS.

This guy was FANTASTIC, very knowledgeable and thorough. He spent about 5 hours with the wife and I, including a short haul for the hull, sea trial and complete 15 page written report at the end. I know it sounds like a commercial but I really think this guy is wotrh every penny to protect a potential investor.

Thanks all for the feedback – I’ve made a decision and scheduled to have a surveyor & sea trial this Friday. I'm nervous and excited all at the same for the results.

So, how did you make out with the sea trial/ survey? If you don't mind me asking, who did you use?

Yeh the survey :smt089 I’ll get the write up in the next few days – but the short and skinny is that one of the engines was not making the power it should. Very disappointing and VERY surprised on a low hr engine (I posted the details in another thread).

I ended up using Aiden from Johnson Marine – I’m very happy with my choice. He is provided a great report on the entire engine history – It is very impressive how much data is actually logged in the ECM. I can see how the user ran the engines – with a breakdown at key PRM ranges
Idle – 120 Hrs
1500 – 2500 -34
WOT – 2.4 hrs
That type of stuff

Also a number of previous trouble codes – dating back to the beginning of time…

We hired Jim Olsen out of West Sayville, Long Island, NY. He charged us $580 and was worth every penny. He worked hard to protect our interests and was extremely thorough. If you need his number, let me know via PM.

I used Capt. John Lowe(631) 462-2624 Lowes Marine Survey out of East Northport, he came down to the south shore. He took a few hours, did a sea trial and found some minor things wrong with the boat. He then sat with the seller and got all the minor things taken care ofby the seller. He probably saved me the same money that he chrged me for the survey. So I feel he was worth the money and the insurance company accepts his report.
