Looking for a recommendation for a surveyor in the Lake Lanier area which is just north of Atlanta. I checked the SAMS directory and spoke to one but price seemed quite high for a 340 (2006). Not sure how best to choose a good one without a recommendation. Appreciate any thoughts, including which CSR forums to post this to.

It depends on how in depth you want your survey to be.Some sams dont do engine surveys you will need a marine mechanic to do that part .I had a guy come up from near detroit to do my insurance value survey, pretty much did everything but the engines and sounding .I have had a survey started on a boat in cheboyban once but the surveyor called and told me the stringers were rotten before he even finished the soundings .This boat had only 325 hrs on it and was immaculate otherwise but it had sat in the water all season every year since 1977.Anyway a sams guy told me 450 to do my survey, no fluid samples ,that would be extra ,and i had to get my own mecanic to do the engines that was another 250 to do compression checks and what not.My 40 silverton was about 850 to do the whole boat and the surveyor was in the area for that one down in catawbwa island area of ohio.just make sure you know what you want and what you are getting for your money, follow them through it and ask as many questions as you want .if you want a couple names i will pm them to you it may help but they are from down state so like i did have it done wj=hile they are in the area it will save a few bucks .

Thanks......I appreciate the advice. Please PM to me.

Welcome Sinbad! I am a newbie to Lanier but just had my boat fully surveyed and I though that the guy was very reasonable and thorough. There are really only 2 guys around here so here is their info:

Mike Griffith

770-592-1843

Allen Douglas (this was my guy)
770-697-4175

Bump... I too am looking for a surveyor in the Lake Lanier area. Any recommendations would be much appreciated! Scottzzy, Sinbad - after your surveys, now that time has passed - how did your surveys turn out with your boat (assuming you purchased)? Any unidentifiable issues from the survey that come to light afterwards? Who did you use? Feel free to PM me!
