Hi guys!

My wife and I are strongly considering a 2001 SeaRay 310.
http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2001-Sea-Ray-310-Sundancer-102100282

The price was just reduced heavily. Before I get serious I'd like to have it surveyed. Does anyone have any recomendations for a good surveyor in/around Annapolis? Someone who will take the time to not only find existing issues, but also educate a relative newbie?

Thanks,
Chris

I just purchased a 290DA in Shady side and used Travis Palmer from Corsica Surveys, he was very thorough and while nothing major came of the survey (a good thing) I'm confident he would have caught any issues. He does have the ability to run diags from the ECU's and did use an infared gun on the exhaust manifolds/risers even though he doesn't consider himself an engine surveyor and made suggestions accordingly. Not sure if those last two items are the norm, but it was good info nonetheless.

I believe he was 19/ft but I believe if I refer you to him you will get 20% off. (We don't get anything, so don't think im trying to sell you on them)

Full disclosure, I was not present for the survey as we are in upstate NY so I can't speak to being onboard during the survey.

Edit: Just looked at your listing....Is that a clarks landing boat? That's who we bought from, pretty good experience overall.

I've worked with Robert A. Noyce (& Associates). He is thorough and helpful. He does not do the mechanical side of things. 410-703-5380. His survey includes a value estimate.

I've also gotten oil testing done with Blackstone Labs and learned some interesting things about some engines.

agree 100% on the oil analysis. Again in our case it was minimal findings (small amount of sodium indicating what we already knew, new manifold needed on port engine) but they test for all kinds of trace metals and can show some very interesting things.

I've used Jim McGlincy several times, he was very thorough and explained everything. Here's his contact info:

Used John Pepe 410 726 3453 he was knowledgeable when it came to Sea Ray boats and informative. Good luck with your search and purchase.

If I read your post correctly, you anticipate surveying the boat before you make and offer or have a contract in place.

This is a brokered or dealer owned boat. That means that the boat is for sale as long as there is no contract and you could be throwing your survey money away if the boat is put under contract before you get to that point in doing your due diligence. You should make an offer for the boat contingent upon a hull survey, a mechanical survey, and a sea trial (plus financing and insurance contingencies if you need them) and give the broker a 10% deposit. The broker then gets the seller to agree to the price and contingencies and sign the contract. At that point you have an enforceable contract and the boat cannot be sold out from under you.

Good luck with it...............

Everyone - Thanks for the valuable feedback. No purchase yet, but I will let you know how things turn out and hopefully be positing in the new owner area soon!
