surge brakes

My 2016 Venture was purchased by the people I bought ours from but it had never been on the road until I towed it to the sea trial. A guy at our marina was talking up Venture saying how good they were. He pointed out the isolators they use so no aluminum touches steel anywhere. Little things like that. But so far I had that wire issue mentioned earlier, which is just sloppy work, and my winch broke but that was made by a different company. But to be fair the boat wasn't running and it's a fairly steep ramp and I had to crank it up on the trailer. Stripped the gears. Other than that it seems like a solid trailer

interesting take on Venture. I have had 4 trailers from them and all have been perfect. I will consider myself lucky on this one.
There are good ones, for sure. But the issues we were seeing were just too many to warrant keeping them on the lot - a very noticeable, higher rate of issues than other brands. So much so that a new slogan began being tossed around the shop: "It's always an adventure with a Venture" :) And, to top it off, they weren't standing behind their warranty which meant we had to eat the costs. We stopped carrying them a number of years ago. Maybe they've up their game, though - and that would be good.

Yep. Should be a light blue wire. Should be able to see it pretty clearly. Mine was actually pinched between the frame rail and the big washer for my coupler bolt and broke the wire, which was why mine wouldn't back up. Problem is I had bought a new 2018 Ram 2500 and had never towed with it before so thought it might have been the truck. Well when the wire shorted it did blow the fuse under the hood so had to replace that too.
Ok, have all the wires and the solenoid is installed and connected to the blue wire. I know it wasnt working when I launched, I had to put the pin in the coupler to be able to back up without locking the brakes on. How can I test this on an empty trailer? Wire doesnt look damaged or cut anywhere. Can I put 12 volts to the solenoid and see if it clicks?

Yes, you can put 12v on the blue wire and ground wire (typically white).

Yes, you will hear it click when it activates. The sure test is to back the trailer up an incline. Even unloaded the brakes will lock up if it isn’t engaging.

That’s how lazy state safety inspectors check the brakes rather than pulling a wheel off.

Tested solenoid with battery, works fine. Next step is to check the trailer plug on the truck.

There may be a fuse under your hood for it too. My 2018 Ram has a fuse that blew. It's a weird looking fuse.

When the vehicle is in reverse then power goes to that blue wire to lock out the trailer brakes. I don't remember which fuse it was though
