Hey guys, I have a 2006 185 sport with a shorlandr trailer. The other day when I started to decelerate the truck the trailer's brakes started to chatter, but when I depressed the brakes more it quit. It has done this a couple of times, and I am equating it to the tounge's sliding surge break mechanism, but not really sure. I sprayed a bunch of grease around it tonight and going to take it out tomorrow for some hard stops to see what happens. Any other ideas?

Disk or Drum brakes, Fresh or Saltwater? Also please fill out your signature with your boat and location, it is helpful when trying to diagnose issues.

Thanks

Mine was doing that a couple of years ago, and it was because the brake shoes were eating into the side of the drums. It didn't do it every time, but just every once in a while. Thankfully the boat was only 6 months old at the time, so it was all covered under warranty.

Pull your drums off and take a look inside there.

I'd guess cracked shoes or pads. Do as suggested above and take a close look.
