Hi all... so here it is springtime and my thoughts are again with boating. I am now seriously considering a second "just for fun" boat. I was at a recent boat show and was speaking to a salesguy from Surfside 3 in Haverstraw N.Y. Marina about a smaller Sea Ray. He seems to have a few good deals that could work but I am more concerned about things like:

1) Reputation
2) Service
3) Honesty
4) Warranty issues when they arise

Can anyone comment about the Surfside plus' and minus' as pertaining to the boat purchase, servicing, warranty work, etc? Should I be looking elsewhere (perhaps Marine Max) etc. It would be a great help to me, moreso than the actual price.

Thanks in advance.

Sufeside 3 was bought out by Marine Max last year but like anything else it depends on the local people at the local dealership. MM in the final option will stand behind any product it sells but unlike cars boat dealerships are even harder to get satifaction out of. Good luck.

I have purchases my last two boats from Surfside 3. As stated, they are now part of MM, but the Barbara family is still very involved. You don't have much of an option, but you can feel good about dealing with them.

I am a Surfside 3/MarineMax customer. The sales staff has not changed in the Lindenhurst sales center and from what i've seen same holds for the delivery center. I have not noticed anything different since MM bought Surfside 3. The ss3 CULTURE has followed!

I noticed some small spyder cracks near the transom door on my 2005 270 AJ at the end of last season, and they are repairing it free of charge in two weeks.

SS3/MM is probably your best choice!

Good Luck

I have bought 3 of my last 4 boats (320DA,390DA,48DA in 4 years) from SS3 on the hudson. All I can tell you is they are great. I'm sure you were talking to Ken (smaller boats) during the show of Mike Jr for the bigger boats. They are honest people and stand behind their customers. MM did buy out SS3 but the SS3 at Haverstraw is a franchise unit, and Mike and Ginny Deforio really stand BESIDE their customers.

I have never had any issues from the time I walked in for the first boat up to last week taking delivery of the 48DA. They service and winter my boats and I wouldn't have it anyother way. Their Charles Point Service dept is tops, and Mike Sr is activly involved.

If you are looking to buy.....walk in and buy! They will take care of you.

You said "2nd just for fun" boat. Are you at Haverstraw now? and if so what dock?

did not have a good experience with them. that's all I'll say.

Rich,
No, I am not in that Marina. I am actually way up on the hudson river in Kingston NY. My marina is called the Anchorage and is the last one on the creek. I live in NJ though, so I can more or less purchase the boat anywhere within a 50 mile radius.

Hey Mark - Momentary thread hijack... I took my 260 down Rondout last summer - ended up overnighting at RYB because there was a big event happening at Anchorage. It was my first time all the way down the creek and, although I stayed in the channel, I hit some real shallow spots coming around near the end before the approach to Anchorage. Any local knowledge to share about that spot? Can you bring your 370 through at any tide?

No problem with the hijack. You probably are referring to the area by Lou Robertti's marina and the Rondout Bay Marina. If so, the best bet is to always hug the waters nearer to the actual marina's themselves. There is a green buoy just prior to and just after Lou's marina. If you follow a straight line from one to the other, you WILL hit bottom at low tide. Locals know never to do that. Make an arc, not a straight line. As for me, I never hit bottom...ever. That is the lowest spot in the creek btw with average depth at low tide of 5'. Still not too bad considering where I used to boat (Barnegat Bay). :)

Just curious as to what event that was? 4th of July or X-mas in September boat parade?

I think it was actually a battle of the bands - I was looking for a more peaceful afternoon :smt001. I'll have to check my log book to see exactly when that was. I take it you'd recommend Anchorage for an overnight? Always looking for great new spots to visit. And thanks for the local knowledge on the creek - I'll definitely save your post. Now back to our regularly scheduled thread...

I walked in SS3 Haverstraw once. The guy was nice.

Battle of the bands was a pile of %$#%$#. It was at the Rondout Bay. What a hole. I had my ear plugs on all weekend. We are the next one up closer to the blue bridge. The quiet one!
