    Let's make this a pure SB thread. I have put down my axe concerning the refs and will not rant after the SB about play call.

    You must continue to post the avatar you won or lost by during the betting season however you may post your team pic in the signature or comment area.
    Please no personal attacks however team slander will be accepted but only in the spirit of the game.:grin:

    So here's my sig.

    Well, if we are moving the Super Bowl posts over here it seems to me this post belongs here:

    Bill, sometimes fans get over into the original meaning of fan and become fanatics. When folks have losers for so long they can lose sight of right, wrong, and sportsmanship once the scoreboard lights up for them and they rationalize away the bad. The Seahawks are the most despised NFL team in the league based on studies of negative Internet traffic and that has likely only intensified after yesterday.

    Why would the public not like the Seahawks?

    I never heard a negative word about the Seahawks until Pete Carroll, a man who has left a wake of destruction everywhere he has been, was named head coach. What more can be said of this man that has not already been said? The NFL shoud not allow failed NCAA coaches to escape their punishments while leaving the young men and institutions in their charge to suffer the consequences. This was not a small infraction, the Heisman trophy was forfeited by his player, so Carroll's actions tainted all of college football and a prestigious honor. People in the know understand how this man operates and the feeling is spread from there.

    Performance Enhancing Drugs, the Pete Carroll led Seahawks lead the league in his time with at least 5 suspensions accounting for a full 10% of violations. That one team would have so many PED violations in such a short time clearly means the coaching staff is not in control and leading their team or, God forbid, promoting PED use. I cannot in my wildest imagination see Tony Dungy, or Chuck Pagano excusing such conduct. (Not to imply they would shun and not try to rehab and help the fallen). There is a PED problem under Pete Carroll in the Seahawks locker room.

    Just for the record, the Broncos are not squeaky clean here either, but the most if not all violations occurred under a different head coach. From ESPN:

    "Two other teams, the Broncos and Giants, have had four suspensions each, while the Patriots, Redskins, Bengals, Texans and Rams are tied for fourth with three each.

    With 50 total suspensions during that time frame, 22 teams have had at least one.

    Only the Bills, Lions, Jaguars, Colts, Chiefs, Jets, Raiders, Cowboys, Eagles and 49ers have stayed off the board."

    This Pete Carroll led team leads the league in penalties and no mention of changing that ever comes from the top. Most coaches around the league strive to reduce turnovers and penalties, but not Carroll, he challenges his players to commit penalties EVERY play because officials will not call them all. I hope this issue is the major media 2 week story going in to Super Bowl because the only way Seattle can beat Denver is to mug them on every play.

    Pete Carroll's overblown bravado is unprofessional he runs the sidelines like a kid and spends more time on the field than some players. As a football fan it gets annoying to see his antics every play. He was caught on camera making a choke sign to a kicker after a missed kick, he celebrated a blown call by replacement refs like a Jr. High cheerleader. Can you imagine what other NFL head coach would do that?

    Those antics also inspire his players to behave badly on the field as well, Seahawks players are well known for taunting, preening for the cameras, and dirty play. And then there is Richard Sherman, the man has a communications degree, this is not just some poor kid trying to make it, he does this on purpose. His selfish goal is to rise up above the team to national prominence, and if that takes PED's, so be it. Most coaches would nip this in the bud, but not Carroll, he supports it.

    The 12th man/loudest, baddest crowd is way over hyped, some fans are so into themselves they have jerseys that don't honor, respect, and celebrate a great or loved player, but to aggrandize themselves. They post on all over the Internet with the snarky attitude of the coach and team and seem to feel they are somehow personally involved, not just watching a game. I'm in no way disparaging community support for your team but the way Seahawks fans present themselves to the public makes many in the rest of the country not like what they see. (This point is not made in relation to posts on CSR, I read for enjoyment and read articles and the comments from hundreds of sources, so this is not directed to anyone person or post.)

    I really like the Seattle fans at CSR and hope I do not offend you with this post but rather hope you take a look at some of what the team you support has done and have a better understanding of how others feel around the country. I despise teams that don't win it the right way so therefore I will be cheering for the Broncos to win and don't even care if it is a "good" game.

    http://blog.seattlepi.com/football/2...-the-seahawks/

    It also changes nothing in my mind if you post links showing Carroll, Sherman, and the rest of the gang at children's hospitals, in a soup kitchen, or donating money to the needy. Every team does that, Peyton Manning even founded his own children's hospital. Manning will be remembered in Indy and Denver long after his football accomplishments are old and faded because he did it the right way.

    Mike,
    Once again you have set the table for some good comment. I agree that there are few teams immune today of bad habits and bad play, my GB team included. My rant was for the Refs as you well know and I take care not to trash another team just for trashing’s sake. Rivalries are just that, rivalries, and trash talk is part of it but should be kept in good taste.

    I make exception for poor sportsmanship and show boats on the field. Sherman is case in point however once again you can pick many players today who think they have saved the nation by catch a ball or stopping a play.

    I have great respect for Russell Wilson who played a great game and showed real class during his field interview. Same goes to Harbaugh. I don’t particularly care for him as a coach but showed great sportsmanship toward the Hawk.

    So what does the rest of the CSR nation think.

    MonacoMike, I take offense at your rant and don't believe it belongs on here, but there's nothing obscene about it so I guess it stays. As to your comments on Richard Sherman, he backs up his taunts with his superior athleticism. How many teams could have put together as many interceptions they have taken away from other teams (28 in the regular season)? Nobody. And how many of those came from the type of 2-player interception teams like the Seahawks use? Many of them.

    Yesterday the Hawk Defense almost completely shut down the Niners offense. The 49ers offense was almost completely limited to quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who accounted for all but 25 of their 308 yards. Show me another team that has done that to the Niners. At the same time, Kaepernick had 130 yards rushing and 153 yards passing, but threw two interceptions in the fourth quarter and fumbled to allow the Seahawks to head to New York in two weeks to face the Broncos. The stats don't like. The Hawk Defense has earned the position of being #1 in the NFL because they're good, and they're not afraid to say it.

    The Seahawk defense is the #1 rated D in the NFL, and Richard Sherman is a big part of that. You made a reference to Richard Sherman and PED's in your rant. Can you back that up? If not, I'd like you to edit that out.

    You also make fun of Pete Carroll. Sorry, Mike, but we love Pete. He's taken the Hawks to the Superbowl and we love him for that. He runs up and down the sidelines with boyish enthusiasm. We love him for that. He congratulates his players as they come off the field. We love him for that. Pete loves the game. He loves the team and he's not afraid to show it. I'd much rather have a coach like Pete than most of the other coaches who stand quietly on the sidelines. Pete brings a sense of excitement to the NoFunLeague that hasn't been there for a long time.

    You ranted about the 12th man. What is it about a strong fan base that pi$$es you off? Why is it when people come out by the thousands, dressed in Seahawk colors, that you get mad?

    Sorry Mike, but you sound like sour grapes. If you don't like it that the Seahawks beat the 49'ers, go to your room and cry. But leave us Seahawk fans to enjoy the moment. We went 14-3 through the regular season (17-3 if you count the preseason) so we've earned the right to be called NFC CHAMPIONS.

    Hey GFC, Thanks for the post. I appreciate your passion for the team. The Hawks aren’t my team but they aren’t my enemy either. My team sits in GB after a poor season though Flynn did what he could.
    I blew off on the refs and Sherman and I felt with just cause. I must say I’m not a Harbaugh fan either. His drama queen antics are well documented but he did contain himself for the post game comments.
    So the SB fan loyalty is well defined. Let’s all remember we will be SR fan after the season. My avatar will display Old Skool with pride even though she’s showing her age and is only 20ft.

    I see no such thing as a "rant" in my writing, it was quite factual with a few opinions thrown in. You have always been a true class guy that I have the utmost respect for and hope that the 90% we have in common will overcome the 10% we do not. I understand it is not pretty when the underbelly of something you love is exposed but my facts are right per mainstream reporting over the last year or so. I can't believe you feel the site should remove a factual post on a football team.

    Richard Sherman tested positive for PED and was suspended for 4 games just before the playoffs last year. The suspension was lifted as there was a procedural issue not affecting the sample of failing to note a second cup was used. Sherman now acts like he never tested positive. As reported by ESPN.

    "According to the written decision, Sherman's sample cup began leaking, to which the tester grabbed another cup and transferred the sample. Documentation of the leaking cup was not originally on the submitted report following the test and only when asked by a supervisor in October did the tester acknowledge the sample being transferred from the original cup.

    The tester later gave testimony that he'd never experienced a leaking cup before, yet didn't feel the situation rose to the level of needing to be included on his report."

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8783832/richard-sherman-seattle-seahawks-wins-appeal-suspended

    He also had some cavalier comments about his teams and the league's PED use.

    "Asked whether the team had a PED problem, Sherman allowed that "it does seem that way" in light of having five suspensions since 2011."

    "Also from Sherman regarding the potential PED problem: "It is what it is."

    "Sherman did not come out and say definitively that the team has a PED problem that would foreshadow future suspensions. To me, saying "it is what it is" means it's tough to deny the existence of a problem when five players have been suspended since 2011."

    http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/101939/cornerbacks-ped-comments-in-perspective

    I did not "make fun" of Pete Carroll, the items concerning him in my original post stand for themselves and all are verifiable. It is not just his sideline antics, although that is often cited by fans as being annoying, it is his leadership style and track record I do not like. The coach is not a cheerleader, but rather the most visible face of the teams leadership on the field and on television. His actions reflect on the whole team as does his leadership reflect from the whole team. I have never respected Pete Carroll as far back as when he was with the Jets and Patriots and his USC stint just shows his win at all costs attitude, those opinions are not just about the Seahawks.

    I am neither "pi$$ed" nor "mad" just objectively looking at a situation I do not feel is right. I love a good fan base, the Colts fans who support their team number in the millions. Fans of opposing teams can come to Indy and be treated with respect and without much fear of violence, even our strongest rivals. Sadly that cannot happen in many NFL cities around the country. It was recently reported and publicized that Seattle police would be out in 49'ers jerseys to cut down violence to visitors. I feel this starts at the top of team leadership of how they play and fans take it from there. We've previously discussed the stadium and it's mechanical configuration to boost sound so we will leave that at that.

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/9...ks-undercover-police-san-francisco-49ers-gear

    The whole #12 jersey and 12th man ceremony seems funny to me, but that is just an opinion. Likely a money maker for the team as they do not have to share any money with a player like they would with a players jersey. Might be a good deal for fans as they will likely not be cut and end up with an outdated jersey. I don't care if they do that it just seems odd to me. As for fan comments, go to NFL.com, ESPN, and major papers around the country and read the comments of Seahawks fans, my reading is they exude their coaches bravado, but again just an opinion. Don't let me hurt your enjoyment of that aspect of winning.

    I have no horse in the race now am a NFL fan hoping for good games so I have no "sour grapes" nor a reason to cry. The 49'ers are not very high on my list of teams I like though I will watch any teams play as I like the game that much. Usually don't watch much until boating season is over for us. You are absolutely correct that the Seahawks won the game and the NFC championship, it's how they arrived there that I do not care for. You are only a little more aggrieved than the Raven fans were last year when I noted Ray Lewis notable list of accomplishments including getting out of a murder charge. I still to this day refuse to listen to him on ESPN.

    I hope for a clean game in the Super Bowl with proper calls on holding receivers and pass interference. Good luck to the Seahawk fans and if you win I will congratulate you, but for me it is GO Denver Manning...

    That, my friend, you can take to the bank.

    While I really want the Hawks to win the SB, I must admit to placing a $20 bet at Caesars last week for the Broncos to win. I figure if the Hawks win I'm out $20 but extremely happy that they won. If the Broncos win I'll be disappointed that my Hawks didn't win, but that disappointment will be tempered by the $40 I will win from my bet.

    As to the rest of your and my comments, I guess that as gentlemen, we'll have to agree to disagree.

    Interesting article on where the Seattle police got the idea to wear game jerseys after the San Francisco police have been doing it for several seasons with success, in Seattle after the game the only fans that were almost arrested were several people from the Bay area smoking pot outside the stadium in public the police just had them put it out and let them go after informing them it was against the law to smoke in public.

    I found this on Craigslist, so it must be true!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    New study claims legal recreational marijuana use can lead to a Superbowl win.
    A study conducted by the Sportsfan Endowment Fund has revealed startling new facts about the legal use of recreational marijuana. Researchers studied 50 states, 48 of which do not allow legal recreational use of marijuana, and two of which are progressive states that allow the legal use of recreational marijuana by responsible adults.
    Researchers found, consistently and across the board, each of the 48 states that don't allow legal recreational use of marijuana by responsible adults failed to produce a contender for the 2014 Super Bowl. In contrast, of the 2 states that do allow recreational use of marijuana by responsible adults, 100% have a team playing in the 2014 Super Bowl.
    "In comparing the results we were struck by the stark consistency." said lead researcher, Dr. Wayne King who added. "I'm not really a doctor but I can do the math". When pressed for details he went on to say, "Karma played a big role in this outcome and we're looking into the possibilities of Karma like this occurring on a national level." He refused to reveal more but only stated, "Just imagine the gold medals."
    Mike and All,
    I have to agree with GFC on this. Mike, your post was out of line but you are entitled to your opinion. But you make it sound like Pete Carroll is the first and only coach in organized sports to do what it takes to win. C'mon, let's be a bit realistic. Can you say Bounty Gate? It's fairly obvious that many, many players and coaches in all pro sports find ways to win that are less than ethical. I had a friend that was an exterminator and he told me that for every mouse you see there are 7 more you don't see. With that analogy, how many more are there that haven't been, or were never, caught. The teams you mentioned that did not have PED suspensions just didn't get caught. You would be extremely naïve to think that NO one didn't bend a rule. Do you think that Sean Peyton was the first and only coach that had a bounty system?
    As for Richard Sherman, read this story posted on FOXSports.com by Clay Travis. I had the day off today and listen to a lot of sports talk on the radio while working on the boat and heard a lot of the same talk. Jim Rome applauded Mr. Sherman for not giving the same boring clichéd answers that most other jocks give. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/travis-can-we-please-stop-talking-about-class-in-sports-012014
    As for the officiating....give it a rest. No really can say what would have happen. The uncalled fumble went back to the Niners on the next play and on the uncalled roughing the kicker play, Kapernick could have fumbled or thrown another interception on the next play. Who knows?
    I predicted last week in the other football thread that The Seahawks would win by a TD (they won by 6 points) and that Kapernick would throw 3 interceptions and cost his team the game (he threw 2 and fumbled once and DID cost his team the game).
    Lastly the Seattle fans. I grew up in Seattle and left there in 1979 at the age of twenty-nine. Seattle has been waiting a long time for a World Championship. There was one win with the Sonics, now gone, and that is it. There are other loud stadiums in the NFL and other fans just as obnoxious but Seattle fans are getting attention due to the quality of play that Seattle is producing. Look at the stats. This is a really good football team with tremendous depth. Don't count them out in the Super Bowl.
    Seattle will win by 10 in New York.
    Nice try NorCal but if Kap would not have been rushed to try to come from behind he could have played more conservative ball and made better choices as he did in the first half. No one can say who would have won but when you stack the deck in the second half mistakes will happen as you try to compensate for pi$$ poor ref calls.
    When the calls were made the Hawks attitude went through the ceiling. They were energized by the bad calls. Had the call went the other way the air would have been let out of their tires and they would have been reduced to mush balls.
    As for Sherman, he is and always will be a punk.
