I am a first-time boater considering purchasing a deck boat for weekend lake cruising. Have looked at the 220 and 240 Sundecks. The dealer is pushing the 240 on the basis of more room, a smoother ride, and relatively little spread in the cost (several thousand dollars with the Bravo III upgrade on the 260 HP engine). At the same time, most often there will be only two people going out on the boat and I don't wan to buy more boat than we need. Any advice?

Some things to consider...

How much can you tow? Even though the 24 is just a little longer it probably weighs a lot more. How about storage, can you easily fit the bigger boat?

Every inch counts in making one boat ride better over another boat of similar design so it will ride better, but how rough does it get on your lake? It will cost more to operate too because of the increased fuel consumption.

You will probably only own it for a year or two anyway if it is your first boat because you will no doubt move up to a bigger boat if you like boating.

Welcome aboard!

220 sundeck

:D I just bought a 220 sundeck and took it out for the first time thursday on the sacramento river. I was with as experienced river captain from the dealer as the river is running swift and full. The boat was all i could ask for-it took the current very smooth and was very responsive to the dodging of debris from all the rains we have had.I do have the upgrade engine to the 350 magnum and would highly recommend you get all the engine you can get-for power with full load is always an issue.We had 4 adults and full tanks and gear and it was very responsive to my demands. I too pondered over the 220 or 240 but room wasn't that much different but storage and trailoring were very important to me.It is just my wife and myself 90%of the time and we had all the room we could ask for-we also got the full canvas package for more usage a year in the colder days.
WE are day boaters only-but go every weekend. I tow with a Chevy tahoe 4-wheel with tow package and i don't even know the boat is back there.I also got the up-grade trailor. I went from a 195 bayliner with 220 hspower v-8 and the difference is night and day-i should have bought my sea ray first.
enjoy the shopping-doug==sac river rat
