Here is some pictures of the drains for the self baling cockpit on the 240SD. I thought the 260SD was self bailing also, but was told that it did not have the drains to the thru hull fittings just drained into the bilge.

On the 240 there is a thru hull fitting on the port and starboard side of the boat. The pickup on the port is just in-front of the engine cowling, the drain line runs just in-front of the batteries. On the Starboard side the pickup is just in front of the entry step and the drain line runs in front of the fresh water tank.

Hope it helps.

Here is the pictures.

Thanks for that Chuck. I am thinking about making my 220 SD self-bailing. Good info....

Thanks for the pics, It seems very odd that my 260 dont have it especially when the hulls are basically the same as the 240. I am wondering if it was an option to have them or not. I have heard some lakes ban drains to the outside water. I dont know, just dont make sence, but i am going to make mine that way. the battery (port side seems easy, but the starboard side I have the water tank in the way which will push back the thru hull fitting a bit. Once i get it in the water i will have to check it out...

Thanks again...

One should also realize that the 240 SunDeck (at least our 2003 model) is not totally self bailing.

When water is on the deck and gets into the deck locker rims, that water drains from the deck thru holes and into tubes which drains into the bilge.

That is correct but the little bit that does make it to the bilge should be pumped out by the bilge pump.

One of the things that has always been a pet peeve to me is that the anchor locker and the built in cooler also drain to the deck lockers.

Good point...
I bet it would be relatively easy to connect pvc pipe to the rim drains and run the pvc up against the top side wall of the locker to join in at the back deck water drains. I will have to look into this. The less crap going to my bilge the better.

Just purchased a 2000 240 Sundeck! It appears that everything goes into the bilge. Can anyone confirm? Thanks.

My suggestion would be to check where the dains run to. I have an 260, which doesn't make sence why it's different, but only my 2 sinks self drain out the boat. Everything else goes to the bilge.

I am curious to know the other 260's, 270's, 280's and the 290's are setup.

my 240 and new 290 all drain into the bilge. Sinks are self bailing... This is a design flaw from my view.

Re: Sundeck 240SD

I need to drain the 20 gal water tank in my boat. Can someone help me understand how to do this? My boat is yr 2004. I'd sure appreciate some help. Thank you. Please reply direct: owormser@earthlink.net

Re: Sundeck 240SD

Turn on your water pump, grab one of the sprayers and fire away. It will be empty in a few minutes.

Ditto:thumbsup: Just don't run the pump for more than 10-15 min. at a time.

The 290 Sundeck also drains into the bilge. I looked at modifying with thru-hull drains, but after discussions with Sea Ray, this was not possible due to where the thru-hulls would need to go vs. the waterline. I did add a second bildge pump as a backup since our 290 only had one bildge pump as well.

Did you hook up a secondary float up too to this pump? The problem I had this year was that my float switch got stuck twice and killed my battery on 2 different occasions. I thought that the float had crap in it so i tried to clean the bilge area, pump and float then the float was stuck off. So I replaced it and that one got stuck on too! But only once and the first time. Hopefully it just needed to break in. The float scares more than the pump. :wow:

I want to hook everything to thru hull drains but not sure if I can on my starboard side because the drain is further back then the portside, thus having the water tank in the way.

I think the stairs are different so the location of the starboard side floor drain is set back more.

Yes - complete 2nd pump (new pump, float, thru-hull, and breaker/fuse) as backup. I had an issue earlier this year during a storm where the float got stuck, fuse blew, and 30' of open bowrider filled the bildge rather quick. If I could not get to self bailing, a second pump was my only backup option.

Good idea. So I assume you have a dual battery system and havemthem connected to different batteries?

Why not simply disconnet the line to the pump at the tank and let it drain into the bilge area? If on a trailer open the drain plug (aka "butt plug") and if in the water turn on the bilge pump. It'll drain in a few seconds.
