Summer plans?

Actually this will be our fourteenth trip by our own boat to Mackinac Island in the past 28 years. The Island does present its challenges. I've had lines break due to ferries and you just have to get up some mornings and leave your boat bounce in the slip while you enjoy the Island. Our favorite times on the Island are the evenings after all the "fudgies" have left.
The toughest part for us is that the harbormaster always puts us on the inside "T" so I bow in to break the ferry wake. That puts our cockpit in a difficult place to board the boat. Because they are fixed docks some years are okay to board halfway back, other years you need a ladder. So yes, it's sometimes a challenge but the Island is so worth it. We know pretty much every inch of it and regularly walk the circumference.
One change thanks to TC410, I will stern in next time for easier boarding. Hopefully the ferry wake won't beat us up too badly.

We've been a couple times with the boat and get put in the same inside you're talking about. The last time we sterned in which made getting off and on easier.

There are just so many other good places to go, we have decided to not go back with the boat. We love going there for a night or two, but hotels at this point.

You are absolutely correct...once the last ferry leaves...such a great place to be. But now, we walk to our hotel rather then the boat. Pink pony at night for some live music and drinks...balcony of the hotel...
