Well i'm in montauk at the myc. I came in last nite and 2 additional 450 da's also came in. Lots of searays here. Going to Block island on monday for a week and then MV for a week. Pop in if you see my boat. I wish I had my csr burgee. I will be talking up the site today and talking to my fellow 450 owners. Looks like I see more 450 s on long island than anywhere. Happy Independence day!

Have a good time Dave!!! and don't forget, We like pictures!

I was going to head out to block island this week, then I checked the weather. doesn't look pleasant starting wed. So I'm making other plans.... I think. hmmmm :smt017

Stihl, this winter i'm sadly winterizing the boat, but I told my wife a NW florida plane trip will be in order. A cruise of your waters will be nice

River Rat , heres a pic for you. Billy Joel has it berthed here, but hasnt been seen all summer. He designed and built it, he will build another one for 2.5 mil.

Thanks all!

Dave,

I am extending my annual Block Island trip by an extra day and I am considering staying in Montauk for a day on the way. What is there to do there? Is the MYC a convenient place to stop? Can you walk around to town or do you need a cab ride. BTW - this is a guys getaway for me - Leaving my dock Wed am, then heading to BI for Thursday am to Sunday. Thanks for any input.

Mark

montauk is great, swimming, horseback riding, great food at Gosmans , shops, bars, beach. you can walk to gosmans landing but the town is 2.7 miles from the marinas. but flying solo you may just want to walk to gosmans landing area where there are many bars and eateries.MYC has a free shuttle running to 11pm the route is Gosmans dock, the downtown gazebo, beach and back to the club, running every hour.

Montauk is an awesome place to be whether by car or boat. MYC and Star Island Marina are located on Lake Montauk, which is a few miles from the actual town area, so you will need a cab ride to reach the stores and beaches. There is some shopping and restaurants located within walking distance. Gossmans, which is located right at the inlet to Lake Montauk has both an indoor and outdoor restaurant with great food and an awesome view of the inlet and sound. MYC is huge and has at least one pool and onsite restaurants and spa as well as snack bars.
Once you go there it will become one of your favorite destinations...

What boatings all about!

Hey Dave;

Sounds like a great time is being had by all! I think your boat is better looking than Billy's!

Dave and JG - thanks for the tips - I will plan on staying there. Now I am really excited.

I just called MYC and almost fell over on the dock prices for one night. I looked around and found Montauk Boat Basin and Snug Harbor at about 1/2 the price. Do you guys have any knowledge of these two places? I appears Sung is closer to Grossman's and walking distance to a couple of bars (priorities, priorities).

Any advice from you Montauk veterans?

If my memory serves me right I believe that Snug Harbor is furthest south in the harbor, and furthest from Gossmans. MYC was recently sold and they're trying to cater only to the largest boats. Try Star Island Yacht Club.

Thanks JG - Snug harbor is on Star Island road and supposed to be within walking distance (per marina office??) to Grossmans, but is further than Montauk Marine Basin so I am wondering if anyone has stayed at either one of these?

BTW - I looked into Star island and they are very pricey as well.

If you dont need amenities(2 pools, sauna, showers, restuarant, snack bar and bar.) then stay at snug harbor, its about halfway between star island and grossmans. you will need a taxi to go to downtown or the beach. Where as you get a free shuttle to town or the beach at MYC.

I will be making my way to Block Island with my dock neighbor this coming week. He has a 29' Maxum. We will stay at Montauk's Snug harbor on wed (8/1/07) then head to Block for Thursday til Sunday. At Block we will stay at Champlin's. I too will extend the invite to any who wants to stop by the "GETAWAY VEHICLE" for a cold one, if you are there.

your welcome Mark,Snug Harbour s nice my good friend usually keeps his 50 hatteras there all summer. you will have a great time at block, its A searay mecca as you may know.

Have a great time. I'm in Greenport at the moment at Mitchells Park Marina. We were heading to Noank but a big system was looming over the Ct coast, it was heading east, so rather than head into it , we traveled over to Long Island where it was clear. Funny my friends were in Lyme and although it was dark, no rain, no thunder, no lightening or wind. Nevertheless we went the other direction rather than into it.
