I am replacing the Norcold DE-704D refrigerator in the cabin of my 1990 Sundancer 350. I have found some good deals on Defender.com that fit the dimensions of my cabinet, but I've never bought a marine/RV fridge before, so I don't know what value to place on brand names.

Any suggested brands that I should look for? Or, are they all pretty much the same?

In my old Sundancer, I replaced the Norcold with a Tundra. The Tundra was a MUCH nicer fridge... The cycling of the Norcold would sometimes wake me up, the Tundra was much quieter and seemed much better built. But it wasn't cheap.

Unless you spend a lot of time on the hook without the gennie running, I see no need for the extra expense of a 12V system. A number of folks I know are replacing their 12/120 fridges with a 120 only dorm fridge from a big box store for about $80. If it breaks in 3 years, pitch it and get a new one.

If you insist on a 12/120, I have heard nothing but good things about the Tundra. Isotherm is top shelf, but costs top dollar.

HTH.

Put in an Isotherm last season. Very quiet, keeps stuff really cold, costs alot.

Hey Dockmate!

Welcome to the CSR Forum! Now you can become as "addicted" as the rest of us!

Thanks, all! Very helpful. Isotherm is one of the brands on discount on Defender.com, so that helps me a LOT!

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all!

I replaced my nevercold with a Vitrofrigo. Amazingly quiet. Try to get a fridge with a Danfoss compressor.
