My trim tabs are still leaking slowly due to bad O rings. Our lift is still down for repairs, so filling the resevor is a monthly choir now. Has anyone come up with a good way to fill it with a bottle of some type? I'm looking at the old red catchup squeeze bottle to get this job done

I had to use a transmission funnel with a long piece of hose jammed on the end of it to fill the oil on my generator. Something like that may work for you.

I bought a turkey baster(sp?). It works well for reaching back there.

Sorry, this is off topic, but I raced a 24 foot sailboat that, besides he sailing equipment, outboard and tank, had one more thing on the boat. A turkey baster. Coming back from the races, consuming beer, we speculated about why a turkey baster would be on the sailboat. At the end of the season, we ran out of gas. No wind. After about 2 minutes my friend and I looked at each other and said "turkey baster!" It was to transfer gas from the external tank to the internal tank to give you enough gas to get home, after the external tank supply dropped below the pickup.

i will give a +1 to the turkey baster. It can handle the job well.

We have a spout that screws on to a bottle of ATF. If you would like one, just send me your name and address and we will mail one to you, no charge.

Gotta LOVE quality customer service!

Yep!!! Gotta love Tabman!!! Only issue I have is the log muffler is mounted right against the darn site tube for fluid level. So I always overfill because I can't see it.....

With my old girl all the water and sanitation lines run just over the top of the unit making it tough to refill. Ive tried a pump can with a flexible tip. The can leaked every where but it works. I just wanted something that wouldn't leak. Bennett is going to send me a filler top for which I can't thank them (Tom) enough!

how do u know if u need fluid? I had a heavy load over weekend 4 adults and 6 kids. I know my boat is rated for it but I couldnt plane. Finally at end of ride I was able to I hit the button so many times that the benzel cracked? I looked at unit to check. I'm assuming u have to remoce cover and tabs have to be retrected but I didnt see a fill line? and where do you add the fluid at?

Use any type of Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF). Don't worry about the exact brand or type - it will all work, and can even be mixed. To add fluid, remove the Lexan cover on the HPU, locate the "filler stack" in the left front corner of the reservoir. There is a round plug sealing the filler stack. Remove the plug and add fluid to the full line on the reservoir. Note: Add fluid only with the trim tabs fully retracted (up). If your reservoir does not have a full line, add fluid so the fluid level is about 1 inch below the top of the reservoir with the trim tabs fully retracted (up). Your Bennett Trim Tab system should not need refilling for several seasons.

Sometimes you can shine a flashlight at the side of the reservoir and see the level, if not you can use something like a pipe-cleaner as a dipstick.

After you check the fluid, you may want to put them all the way down and leave them there overnight to see if there is a leak or bypass in the system. I mention that because you stated you had to hit the button many times.

Also if it is a Bennett Switch we can probably send you a new bezel. Did the bezel have screws visible on the out side or did it snap in place? Let me know and send me your name and address and if we still have some (it might be from '88) we will mail you one, no charge.

Thank you Tom, my parts came in last week. That top will come in very handy

Saverio,

It's pretty straight forward to install the EIC5000. The boat does need to be out of the water though. Here is a link to the installation instructions http://www.bennetttrimtabs.com/pdf/instIcon/EIC5000_installation_instructions.pdf

Look them over and let me know if you have any questions.
