Stuffing Box wrench

I haven't tried that...yet. It's currently in water and the leak would prevent any penetrant from actually getting into, or staying on the threads. It goes on the hard next week, so I'll give it a shot then. Thanks for the heads up.

i did mine in the water with the leak. You might be surprised.

You are right about that ! Another thing i use them on are removing my oil filters. better then any oil filter wrench or Strap wrench. Yea i agree!:D

I’ve got them in all sizes. My massive Channel Lock is the best filter wrench I have.

Rob,
If you wait to get them loose after the boat is blocked up it’s probably a good idea to re-adjust once the boat gets splashed again.
I’d still give it a shot with PB Blaster while it’s still in the water though.
If you don’t have enough room to swing a big channel locks in there then maybe you can pick up a big Crescent Wrench like the one Dave posted a link to and cut the handle down to the length you need.

We did the same as Frank. Cut them out using a milling machine. All four of the classic SeaRay's use them so they stay at the dock.

I can take some pics when I go down on Wens if you wish

I hope these help you. Again they were made on a milling machine

They look like they'd be perfect for the job.

I'd be happy to make my own, I just need a milling machine. ;)

Sometimes even with a good wrench you cant get any swing of the wrench because of obstructions or just the angle that the "flat" of the nut is at, cut the handle of wrench shorter, then using some iron pipe- thread on a 22 degree or 45 degree elbow then a short nipple and you can change your angle of attack.

especially helpful when you have v-drive and the stuff box is under the motor.

One of the reasons I like a nice sized channel lock. Seldom find a nut that can't be tightened.
