Hello every one I am new here but have been a sea ray owner for a long time now I have a 1989 sea ray bow rider 160

and I got this boat from my uncle who bought it new any ways I have tried to get new strings installed by couple people

who have just further damaged my boat and ripped me off live in the north west Chicago land area and am looking for someone in the area that would be willing to fix the boat or knows someone that can?

Thanks for any help an advanced!

Robert

Bob,

There's almost no way what I'm going to say is going to come out without sounding condescending or it being a put down. You're in a bit of a catch-22 situation. You have a boat that if it was in good condition might be worth $3,000 with the trailer, and that's for a boat in good condition. As is, your boat is probably going to take that much money to repair, and then if they do a really good job, it's going to be worth $3,000. Marine mechanics aren't cheap and anything they do is going to cost you an arm and a leg.

My suggestion would be to try to find someone that is willing to buy the boat to part it out and sell the engine, lower unit, gauges, etc. Then take that money and put it toward a newer boat.

See, I knew that wouldn't come out right. Please don't take offense at what I am saying, it really was not meant to be that way.

Who has a link to the guy that did his own stringers etc. with video's? That will give you some idea what is involved and why the expence. It seems to me the OP wants this boat for sentimental reasons and he wont be the first or last on here to undertake this labor of love. That being said isnt there a marina guy on here from chi town, carver something?

Good afternoon:

Ok guys after careful consideration I am going to attempt the transom and stringer repair my self if it doesn't work out then this will be a salvage operation instead thanks for the reply's and the link to the video's I watched all of them and figured if he can do it so can I if anything comes of this repair I will post pic's I probably wont start anything until it warms up a bit but as I get stuff done I will post my progress again thanks for the reply's.

Just sharing a link to the transom replacement I did on our 270DA. I had included info about materials and tools I used that may be of help.
Good luck with the project - look forward to seeing the progress.
