To whom ever,
Ya'll will have to excuse myself and capnjohn. I don't mean to speak for him but if he is as stressed as I am, he'll regret alot of what he says later. If ya'll could walk in anothers shoes before you jump to judge or aggrevate we could hopefully get the information we are trying to gather. Maybe we have a leg to stand on maybe we don't. I think the key is relevent information. If you have information that is relevent then please share. If your only reason for a post is to defend Sea Ray or tell us how wonderful Sea Ray has been to you great, open a new thread an share away.
At this point I don't hate Sea Ray, I'm trying to get satisfaction. I'm trying to let Sea Ray prove themselves, or disprove me. I'll make a determination when I get all the facts. There are many other boat builders and if I don't get what I need here I'll surely find another.
Nothing is more souring than to have people rubbing salt in a wound, and they know nothing of your troubles. If you kick a dog he'll bite you. And if he then bites you and you call for his distruction what does that make you.
Anyways please, at some point in this whole ordeal forgive me for my attitude, and I appologize for biting any one.

Stressed Out

I'm not stressed out at all......I don't understand why you feel the need to apologize. I have not sensed that you are stressed, angry or whatever.....

A lot of well meaning people have contributed their ideas from an attitude of wanting to help. Some stuff is relevant, and other stuff is not- that is all.

Capnjohn

That why they call it a Message Board. You can start a thread, but more often than not it's going to go where people take it - not where you wanted it to go. Hopefully, you find some value there. I really don't think you can do much about it going in some "wrong" direction. It is after all a public forum with a lot of different ideas. For the most part this board is at least trying to be helpful. There are always those few who have a comment that can't even be bent toward a solution. That's the way it is.

Very Helpful Comments

As a new Sea Ray 2006 240DA owner tomorrow,..Island Hopper shared his personal thoughts and concerns that I brought to my local Sea Ray Dealer today. The local dealer agreed with Island Hopper and was pushing me away from the Sundancer and to the Sundeck. Island Hoppers points are VERY accurate and to be persued further.

I appreciate people who are brutaly honest. Sometimes you might not like or agree with thier ideas, but you know where he stands.

Cudos to you for standing for what you believe in.

islandhopper00: Thank you. I understand how stressful and irritating it can be when your boat isn't performing as you expect.

capnjohn: As you're new to this board, please tell us something about yourself. Where do you live and what boating activities do you most enjoy? Do you have kids? What is your occupation? What attracted you toward Sea Ray?

How much money do you make? How tall are you? Why the hell you bought a small boat? SSN? Mother's maiden name? etc...

Buying, owning, and running boats can be stressful. As the guy who has gone 260DA/320DA/420DA in two years I can attest to this. After running the 260 aground (at idle), getting caught in a small craft advisory and getting the 320 completely airborne, and having a bolt shear off in the 420 2' below the water line 75 miles from home it now takes a lot to move my stress meter. Oh, and having a three year old "helping Dad on the boat" contributes too.

It is useful, I think, to remember what this board is about...sharing information, ideas, and opinions about our boats. We are at our best when we leave the overt emotionalism, profanity, personal attacks, etc,. out of our posts and focus on the task at hand--helping fellow Sea Ray owners get the very most out of their boats...safely and efficiently. I am accusing noone of this sort of online boorishness, but it can happen all to quickly.

I am sorry that you are not happy with your 240DA's handling . I am of a mind that Sea Ray would not put an unsafe boat on the market. Rather, I think that you have a boat that is extraordinarily sensitive to trim and drive inputs, weight balance, load, etc. in certain sea conditions. With practice in a variety of conditions you will get the boat's charachteristics down and become proficient at operating her. Heck, my 420 takes a country mile to turn at speed, the Cummins really don't like cold starts in the late fall and early spring, and screwing around excessively with my barn-door sized trim tabs will cause the exhaust note on one or other engine to increase dramatically. I learned this the hard way one day running down the river...wife and kids were asleep and I decided to see what a little tab would do...bad idea. Nothing like the diesel roar at 2400 RPMs to wake up the sleeping admiral. And don't let me get going on the generator racor placement. It is a boat. It is a floating set of design compromises that I have learned to work with, and around.

Most of us are here at CSR fairly routinely because we love boating and want to help others. What I like about this board is that most of the time we comport ourselves like gentlemen. I don't bother with any other boards anymore because the anonymity of the internet too easily allows some to unburden their inner idiot. To a degree that is what killed SRO, and I sure hope it doesn't happen here.

Go run your boat in a variety of conditions. Make sure your load is balanced and figure out what works best. If you still think you got a floating lemon take the Dealer out with you, and keep it matter of fact and calm. I am inclined to think this will work out.

What worked for me in the 260DA was to adjust running angle with the drive, and port and starboard trim with the tabs...and just a light touch on the tabs. You can't overcome the limitation of an 8' or 8'6" beam in 3-4 foot beam seas no matter what you try to do. She's gonna roll a bit.

and now, back to our regularly scheduled posting.

regards
Skip

Thank you all I appreciate the support.

capnjohn, believe it or not I don't like to step on toes. It just sort of happens.

cap10pat, yea, I know, but.........

bnydish, glad I could help. Your welcome, and thank you, for your confidence in me. I told you my dealership doesn't hate me!

Thunderbird, it is the whole situation that's irritiating. I do my best to live up to what is expected of me, and when someone or something doesn't, well, it's just hard to swallow.

Gary, Gary, Gary....your killing me with this stuff. :smt043
It's not the size of the boat it's how you use it.

stressed out

to skip:

Obviously you have nothing to offer, so please don't. If all you want to do is talk about your wonderful 42' boat, isn't there some dock neighbor that you can BORE THE HELL OUT OF?

I had the big Sea Ray too and I can tell you that Sea Ray boats inc. will put the biggest piece of crap on the water without regret if they thing suckers will buy it.

sad but true, I bought the big boat and felt the nearly constant need to defend my decision to do so in light of nearly constant quality issues.

It's tough living with the worst decision in your life isn't it .....Skip.

As for the guy who wants my pedigree- walk the plank matey- defective material / product is just that and it don't matter where you came from when you bought it. For the record, I have been a constant boater for 31 years.......this 240 DA is not the biggest piece of crap I ever owned, no that would be the new 370 DA I bought. That trueley was the biggest, and most expensive mistake I ever indulged in. I had my reasons, and just like all of you reading this, you buy a Sea Ray because it will resell better than any other when you are sick to death with dealing with the quality problems........ a lot of fun, but more headaches than what it was worth...

Please , don't bother defending your position in this matter, you are wrong- simply accept it, and stop talking stupid. Try not to make a fool of yourselves defending Sea Ray Boats Inc. and especially this latest peice of garbage, the 240 DA... DA should stand for "dumb...A.....

Ok, now I'm going to have a big mouth.

who TF are you to come in here and talk like this? (i'm not allowed to cuss)

you have contributed what to this forum???? from what I can see, nothing!

you bought a boat that you don't like, 31 years of knowledge stored up in that head of yours.... I think you need to look at another hobbie.

That's it???? I can live with that.

no he's too busy hating life.

Stressed out

Yes I read the post Skip wrote, and with the amount of money he has invested, he simply has to be in denial when he states that He believes SRB would not put an unsafe boat on the market. PLEEEEEEEEEEZE........I OWN one NOW~~~~~~ to skip, DE NILE is not just a river in Egypt...........How else can you explain why "skip" is willing to put up with the almost constant stupid quality problems that his Giant- Expensive - It- should- be- so- much- better- quality -than- this -.........Sea Ray

OK, time to freeze this one. CaptJohn, this site is a fun place for Sea Ray owners to hang out with each other to talk enthusiastically about their boats. Since you have had several you obviously like the brand so lets talk about some of the highlights in your future posts. If you want to moan about your trim tab issues there are plenty of other sites with users that will sympathize with you.
