My center eisenglass panel was startng to yellow at the edges, and in general I've been unhappy with the crappy visability though even new eisenglass, so I did some research, talked to my canvas guy, and decided it was time for an upgrade. I had all three front panels redone with strataglass and finally picked them up today.

:wow:

They are perfectly clear and best of all he was able to reuse my existing zippers / snaps / canvas (all of which were in great shape). This made it much cheaper - $420 for the set - less than half of what the quote was for all new panels.

I can't wait to get these up on the boat - shrink comes off tomorrow!

What's that music I hear playing in the background? :smt017

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-Shiny day.

From the song performed by Johnny Nash.

BTW.......congratulations on the new clear panels too.

you can always tell the age of people by the songs they quote. :smt043

CJ,
The difference between Strata Glass and the clear vinyl provided by Searay is so obvious its silly. Take care of the new "windows" with the Strata Glass recommended IMAR products and you will get years of great service out of the panels. We have had ours for 4 years and with the exception of a self inflicted scratch, the Strata Glass looks like it did when it was new.

See you in Baltimore!

Oh yeah, way too cold for these old bones to even think about commissioning the boat !!!Maybe mid April.... :smt101

Anyone know if EZ2CY and Strata Glass are the same, similar or not even close? Looking for maintenance tips on EZ2CY.....

Dominic,
I think they are manufactured by the same companies and should be cared for the same way (IMAR products). I seem to recall that you can find EZ2CY specs, etc on the Strata Glass web site. Also, I think there is info on EX2CY on the www.scalisemarine.com site.

EZ2CY and Strataglass are very different products. Strataglass is basically thick isinglass. EZ2CY is more of a rigid panel that can't be bent rolled folded or anything. In fact, in cold weather it commonly cracks if handled too much, also, if the panels are too big it is very easily cracked.

Sorry....I got EZ2CY confused with Crystal Clear 20 20.........Once again, fingers typed faster than the brain processed. :smt014

EZ2CY is a specific product that has franchised dealers in your area. Only one person in a certain mile radius can sell it- and that radius is rather large.

You can probably call them or check thier website for care instructions.

By the way- both carry good warranties- strataglass had a run of bad glass that was fogging up after only a year or two so keep your "eyes" on it

My enclosure is made of Strataglass, it is easy to clean and care for with the IMAR products and is very clear. A photo of mine tied to the dock in Feb.

I guess there's no ice on the water there!

You got that right, and I am real glad. We can boat 12 months out of the year especially with the enclosure, there are some days that is to cool so we don't go out then.

CJ - I am glad to hear that since I just dropped mine off to a local upholstery guy and will get my panels in two weeks.

I talked to the guys at the show about ez2c and they want a small fortune to convert my boat to this type of panel. They would not install this type of plastic in my current window panels. They require an entire new enclosure mounting system with zippers so my windshield frame needed to be drilled and 1/2 zippers installed to mate with the new panels. I did have that much money for this so I did what you did.

I had the very thin clear window plastic that was terrible.

I hope I will be as happy as you!

We finally got to field test the new Strataglass panels. They are such a huge improvement I can't believe Sea Ray doesn't offer it as a factory option.

Next year we are going to redo the forward side panels.

Boatrboy, you are going to love them.

CJ - I picked up my panels on Sat. and they are like night and day. I had an extra old style panel and held it up to the new strataglass and WOW is right. I hope they fit on the boat as nice as they look as the boat is still shrink wrapped (they are still calling for snow :smt021 ). As of today, I am sold on this stuff, but I can't wait to see how much better it looks during a night cruise.

The guy sold me the IMAR cleaner and polish. I have not read the directions yet. Have you used this stuff? How ofter do you need to polish?

I didn't realize they can just redo the eisenglass in the existing canvas. Is that common? My canvas is in good shape but at 4 years old, the eisenglass could be upgraded...

Four Suns - This is the second time I have had mine re-done. I think they basically sew the Strataglass to the old glass, then they cut out the old stuff. I should have gone with the Stratagalss last time. BTW - I saw a lot of windows like mine at the upholstery shop.

With this Strata Glass, can you roll it up like I can with the sea ray stuff? I have a carrying case for my back canvas part (with center window) and I don't want to loose the ability to roll it up.

Strata Glass can be rolled up but be sure to protect it with towels or some other cloth so as not to scratch it. Don't roll it too tightly and obviously, be careful not to crease it as you roll it.

As for the IMAR products, the instructions on the bottles are pretty self explanatory. I use the cleaner each time I wash the boat (which is just about every weekend) and use the polish/protector about once a month. With the exception of a self induced scratch on one of the forward panels, after 3 seasons, my Strataglass looks as good as it did when it was new.

Strataglass Care

IMAR product exclusivity for Strata is just a marketing agreement since Sept 2004. Klear to Sea (?) was recommended at one time but lost the bidding on exclusivity rights. However, always insist you used IMAR and followed proper care instructions if there is ever a problem. New owners - just use IMAR and avoid the angst. I just opened a tube of 5 sheets and am looking at the care instructions as I write this.
I recommend flannel sheets sewn into pockets for each piece. You can roll - just don't let the roll get crushed! I suggest rolling all the pieces around a tube (3" PVC) with a sheet in between each pc.
Always use a new or clean mitt to wash - Only use the specific mitt on your Strata - Nothing else! If you stray you'll pay the price - currently $230 a sheet!
