While looking for our next Sea Ray (300 Sundancer), I've noticed some stoves have a corian piece that fits over the stove covering it completely while other stoves are mounted on the surface of the countertop with a black glass hinged cover.
What is the reason some have the corian cover and others are mounted on the surface? Is this due to the plant they were manufactured in, is it the model of stove, or is this an option when purchasing new?

Not sure what the answer to your question is but I had the hinged glass on my last boat and the removable Corian on this boat. I like the Corian a lot better. It gives you a lot more counter room when in place and is out of your way when you use the stove.

The difference is that the glass covered stoves are alcohol/electric and the corian covered are electric only. I have the glass covered alcohol/electric which I believe was an option but I wish I had the electric only as we will never use the alcohol and would prefer the extra counter space

You could go to a cabinet shop and they could make you a corian cover to go over the glass top, easy enought to do and you don't run the chance of breaking the glass. I made one for mine.

Generally I saw the gas glass on older boats. Move a year up or two and they became electric counter sunk for more space.
