Hi folks,

Are there any issues or concerns with leaving a boat on a hydraulic trailer all winter; more specifically, with having the entire weight of the boat bearing down on just four pads and no support under the keel?

I noticed that my boat had been moved to make room for some construction and it was sitting on the trailer. I am going to call the marina and ask them if they will be placing it back on jack stands or leaving it on the trailer; but wanted to get some input beforehand.

Thanks in advance.

Short answer is the boat needs to spend long term storage with weight supported by blocks on the keel. If your yard puts blocks under the boat and sets the weight down on that it will be fine. Since these trailers start at $ 50k and can run to 3 times that, I don't think they are planning to leave your boat on it very long.

If it was a hydraulic bunk trailer like a Hoestar, I'd have no issues with it...however a trailer with only 4 supports raises the concerns you have, plus factor in what if there is a hydraulic leak at one of the support points, and you have a game of twister going on that you don't want.

Henry, Jeff, thanks for the input and I share both concerns. Likely they are planning on putting it back on the stands but I'll give them a call and bring it up during the discussion.

Happy New Year!

As they say, a picture worth of 1000 words, if you could take a picture showing the support points and how the boat sits on this trailer it'll be a lot easier to provide an opinion.
