I am purchasing a Sideshift Stern thruster for my 560DB. Is there a pros/ cons to installation on the transom or the swim platform ?
We have a Vetus stern thruster on our 52 sedan. It is mounted through the transom. I can't comment on mounting from the platform. Florida bow thruster installed ours. They did an excellent job and recommend them highly. I love having the stern thruster - so much less stress on a windy day or with a difficult docking situation. My only regret is not installing a larger unit. Ours is the same size as the bow thruster. I would recommend you go with a larger unit than your bow thruster. You will not regret having more thrust.
Thanks - the Vetus is a good option also for me. What size is your stern thruster as I would need larger for a 560 DB ??

My advice is to get the largest thruster possible. You're moving the heaviest portion of a very heavy boat, and the part of the boat that sits deepest in the water. I've never heard anyone say "Gee, I wish my thruster weren't so powerful."
Our Vetus stern thruster is a 352lbf (160KGF) 24 volt I believe it has 352 lbs of force with 12.7 hp and is 9.5 KW I completely agree with Gofirstclass comments. I would go for the largest thruster you can fit.
I have a slightly used Sideshift stern thruster that wouldn't work on my boat very well due to the outboards and a place to mount it. gave tons of turning thrust. if you haven't bought a new one yet, and want to make an offer on a slightly used one, let me know 770-364-3313
