I have 2 amps powering 6 speakers in the cockpit, I would like to be able to switch between the amps or have both running. So I am thinking of running the blue amp wire from the head unit to a switch on my dash cockpit.

position up amp A "on" amp B "off"

position middle amp A & B "on"

position down amp B "on' amp A "off"

I have spot open on the dash, what kind of switch do I need?
I think my boat uses V-Series Contura III

You need a 3 pole on-on-on rocker. Not sure if they make them. You can find what you need in a rotary switch.

It's much easier to just do each amp with a simple on-off rocker.

Any reason you wouldn't use the fader on the head unit? Depending on which head unit you have, you might already have what you are looking for...

You can do that too. But the fader on most newer head units is a real pain to find / use. I put rockers on mine, and love being able to just flip the switch rather than fight the buttons and menus.

My head unit is in the salon I want to control the speakers from the cockpit. That's why I am trying find a switch would the switch be a dpdt ?

If you do one switch for each amp, you can do SPST. Just split the remote power lead and hook one side to each of the poles. If you do SPDT you could turn on one or the other, but not both. DPDT buys you nothing in this case. I used a couple of SPST's for my setup. Even if you have multiple amps powering the cockpit (or cabin), you can use the same switch for all of them (just connect the remote power leads together for the set of amps).

Hope that helps.

You could also add an EQ, like the Clarion EQS746. It would acts as a line driver, eq and fader all in one. It would also run the volume from wherever you mount it...Get a little more bank for buck.

They can be found for about $50 on line, plus the wires and RCA patch cords..

There are also PAC level controls that could be added that would be a little cheaper.

This might not be want you want but just trying to offer some other suggestions...
