I have the 2007 280DA and discovered over the weekend that the aux inputs on the clarion stereo are not hooked up to anything.

I blows my mind that Sea Ray did not hook them up to the DVD/TV. Or did they just forget to hook up mine?

Has anyone done this on their own?

On mine, the AUX input is connected to a stereo female plug so I can plug in an MP3 player or other device. I take it you don't have this plug near the stereo, and the RCA connectors for AUX are empty?

That was the first thing I fixed on my boat when the dealer delivered her. Connected those aux inputs to the microwave. Now it popcorn really pops!

Best regards,
Frank

Darn! Gary beat me to it! Danged GSM/GPRS/EDGE data rates!

I am sure that Sea Ray really reserved hooking that up for some $2000 Ipod/MP3 option that you did not buy.

Depending on the DVD player, some have an AUX pass-through on them. That way you can connect both the DVD and an iPod through it. Or use a switcher of some sort to toggle between them.

If you decide to wire up an iPod input consider getting a cable that uses the bottom edge connector. That way you can wire it up both for audio and charging from the boat's 12vdc. Saves you from having to connect both a headphone cable (for audio) and then a separate charger.

You can hook your microwave to the radio?

No Highjack here (can one say this without worry about the gov-mint) but , how else you going to make the foil hat work?

I have not looked for a Aux input, since I have an older Clarion unit. That plus the fact I am probably one of the remaining few who does not own an IPOD, I have enough to do just keeping up with the bipods.

While I love a good sound system, I find the original Clarion system in my boat to be great. I have to replace the cockpit speakers every year or two as the factory crap blew the week i bought the boat. But now I get speakers at West and insist they include a free extended 1 year warrantee ( two years warrnatee), in four years I'm on my third set of cockpit speakers. I did upgrade the cockpit 6 inchers to Sony's cheapo 1 way speakers tho. The sound is awesome but I have atin ear so there ya go. I have to save that mega buck mod money for diesel fuel!

What I really need to do is 86 those tube TV's and get some plasma's down below, that that IPod hook-up rig, I'll do that this spring, great idea.

I've got the aux. on the Clarion hooked up to the satellite dish box and we stream music from it and play over the stereo.

Can someone tell me where to find this aux input?
I have a 2003 280Da with Clarion.
I thought I read that it was hidden somewhere.
Thanks!

If you have an older DA with the Clarion XMD1, there is a fairly simple hack to allow you to have an AUX input without changing stereo heads.

You will lose the CD changer - but to me it wasn't an issue. IPOD and Sirius outweigh a changer anyday - especially when you still get the single CD player.

Follow the directions found here: http://www.planetnautique.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=1696

It took me about 15 minutes to complete. I didn't buy a new DIN cable, I just recycled the one from the changer. I did buy a toggle switch to match the 12V toggles in the breaker panel. The toggle is used to switch from ACCY mode (for your AUX inputs) with regular mode (AM/FM/CD).

Here is the updated link (May 2010): http://planetnautique.com/vb3/showt...ting-iPod-MP3-to-Clarion-XMD-1&highlight=xmd1

Thanks, Andrew.
So, you left the 6 disc changer in place, but it doesn't work once you do this, is that right?
How do you make the single CD player work? Any change to that?
Also, your link is for Clarions without an aux input...is it possible my Clarion already has one and is not in use?

You'll have to check which model you have to see if you may already have an AUX input on the back.

I left the CD changer in place. It would be operational by plugging a DIN cable back in to it and connecting it to the head unit.

The single CD works the same way as always - you just slide a CD in and it starts playing (the single CD slot is in the top of my XMD1 main head - not part of the changer).

There are many different Clarion head units that Sea Ray has installed so it will make a difference how to connect an Aux input depending on the model.

That said, in 2003 the Clarion XMD3 was available and has an easy Aux Input (Red & White RCA inputs) when using the SIRCL-1 or 2 Sirius receiver. It also has a CeNet pass thru so you can use your CD Changer, Aux input and a Sirius Receiver. There is also a translator box to allow you to connect an older C-Bus accessory like a CD-Changer to a newer CeNet Head Unit.

Sounds complicated but is a piece of cake. I have a 12v DVD, Sat, and transmitter hooked thru the Aux In and it works great.

My 2003 had and XMD2, which didn't have AUX inputs or CD changer connection. It was a basic radio.

the radio model will be right on the front of the radio.

for clarifiation. The XMD3 aux inputs have red wires with red/white RCA connectors. There will also be gray and purple wires with red/white RCA connectors.
