Both my 2000 310Da. and now my 2001 340Da both had the same problem and that was steering wheel position. For me its not far enough away from the dash when sitting so you had to sit back away because you knees are hitting the dash then you bend over and reach for the wheel. When you are driving standing up the wheel is to low to reach so you have the same problem. Maybe if I was like 5'6" this would be a problem . My buddies 370EC. is even worse. So I got my hands on a old tilt from my buddy and modified it a little. Replaced the original nylon bushing the added a stainless steel tube and made a brass bushing for the extension. I cut the old shaft in half and machined a 2" piece and welded in the middle with a new snap ring groove. I need to make a cover yet but it works out good.
