Hello,
I have had a small leak in my bilge since I bought the boat. I have tried all normal places to find the leak. It is a slow leak from the starboard side. Other than I aspire to a dry bilge for the normal reasons it does not harm anything. I am now being told on this vintage the steering linkage can be a problem and is the probable cause since we have examined all other sources. The problem is the motor needs to be pulled to fix the issue. Any comments or experiences in this area would be appreciated...
ThanksMike

Some more info would be great, but I would think you have a Merc out drive ? If that's true then the steering linkage you are referring to is the steering arm and the Yoke pivot pin. The pivot pin goes up with a seal around it sometimes that seal will start to leak.

You are right most of the time the engine must come out. One thing to try to slow the leak down. Some of the Merc drives have a grease fitting for the pivot pin if you use marine grease or a very think grease it will slow the leak down but it will not fix it.
