The survey on my 52DB picked up the hydraulic steering return lines were showing some outer jacket deterioration and recommended replacement. I'm in the process of acquiring the hose and fittings to get this replacement completed. It's all 1/2 inch (-8) ID low pressure push-loc hose (Parker 801 hose for example).
Does anyone know for sure if the fittings are JIC (37 Degree) or SAE (45 Degree)?
Thanks
Tom

First both can be considered SAE
The 37 is considered JIC/SAE

the only way to be certain is to have the proper gauge tool or pull one and take it to a shop to be measured.

Layman's terms are - SAE has 45 degree flares and JIC has 37 degree flares; they are not interchangeable. JIC is an SAE standard to be exact which is based upon the more precise and expensive AN/MIL standards. I know all of that. I need to know what SR installed. I don't want to remove the hoses to find out.

LOL
I answered without even noticing who was asking.

No way to tell from looking
Do you know the brand of the steering?
That may be the easiest why to find out.

All good.
The helm and ram are Dometic Seastar but the ones I need to replace are the hoses that SR designed, fabricated, and installed. They are the hoses between the hydraulic pump driven off the gear, the accumulator/filter, and the oil cooler for the steering system. They are all 1/2-inch low pressure return hoses. One of them goes back to the steering gear in the aft which is the blue sockless one in this pic.

It's these dashed in red. The parts manual doesn't say what kind of fitting they are.

Something I learned -
Aeroquip fittings (what SR used on my boat) are available in SAE 45 degree, SAE 37 degree, and "Universal". The Universal can be used on both 45 degree and 37 degree applications. If the fitting has two notches on the nut then it is Universal. Here is the Catalog cut and that pic posted earlier zoomed in. Looks like SR used the Universal fittings (double notch) for the low pressure return (blue hose).
