Hi! I have a Alpha One 3.0 sterndrive on my 95 SeaRay 175. I was going to start it up today for the first time of this year and all that would happen is a loud click. I replaced battery (it needed it anyway) to see if that woudl do it. No luck. Cleaned contacts to a shine. Still no luck.
The click is coming from the starter motor. I had my wife turn the key and noticed that the starter had one of its mounts loose (the top bracket). When I pressed down on it, it shifted loose like it was about to fall out. It looks like a second bolt is missing as well. We tried it again and it made a really bad noise so we stopped.
Before all that I jumped the solenoid off with a scredriver and the started would spin like mad, but the flywheel never engaged. So no click, just spin.
A couple of thoughts:
1. I really hope that all I have to do is properly remount the starter, but the bolts are nowhere to be found and I dont even know the threadpitch or length
2. I hope it did not damage the flywheel or I am screwed.
3. The motor never even budged through any of this. Should I be concerned at all with seizing? I dont know why it would, but then again, this thing is old. Is there any way to test it? I wanted to turn the crank but the exposed pully wheel is buried under mounting brackets.
Any thoughts on this are appreciated.
