Started the trip south: NC to FL

Glad you made it safe and sound. Looking forward to the pics. Was great to meet you guys

OK, got the picture thing figured out - finally - so here are a few.

At the beginning, just got in town. First stop, check on the boat.

Night time view - gotta put it in at least once

On our way Friday morning, we went down the ICW, across Snows Cut, into Cape Fear river down to marina near the inlet.

Just pulled into Bald Head, at the Fuel Dock. Discovered right before pulling in that the cover had come loose on the dinghy. Evidently the drawstring was not tight, it blew off. Supplemental lines kept us from losing the cover, but was dragging in the water. We got it pulled up on the dinghy before docking. That afternoon washed it, let it dry and got it back on.

Getting fuel, many will recognize Bald Head Fuel dock

More to come later....

Great looking boat! Pleased to hear you made it safe and sound. Enjoy your new toy:)

We loved Bald Head, our first time there.

I had been corresponding with mquiet via pm's. He had graciously offered any assistance he could as we headed south and had said they were headed to Bald Head at the same time. Great time meeting up on the dock with some fellow CSR folks.

We had a chance to do some exploring around the island - what a fantastic place.

Next morning we took off for Charleston, headed south. Probably our roughest water of the entire trip, but wasn't bad. Sea was generally following.

Once we turned into the Charleston channel, started getting some beam sea's, bell rang twice. Once we got inside everything calmed down.

We made our way to City marina, here we are pulling inside the Mega Dock.

More to follow

Next day we had a short run to harbortown

Nice marina. Didn't get out much, was raining.

Left the. Next morning for st Augustine.

This is the setup with the iPad in a Ram mount

Finally, the bridge at st Augustine city marina. A welcome sight after that inlet.

Headed out the next morning, could almost see blue sky.

Although we did have a couple of times with weather, then watched a water spout for a bit.

And the boat is home.

Thanks for joining us on this journey and thank you for all the warm comments along the way.

Great photos. Thanks for sharing the journey.

Love the photos and seeing your adventure. It was great meeting you in BaldHead. For those that don't know. I was on the left and Bahamabreisus was on the right. I look the best. Ha

I know one thing, that is as fine and distinguished looking group of SeaRay owners as I have ever seen!
Mark, The boat looks real good and the marina looks wonderful too. Thanks for the pictures I enjoyed them a lot. Would love a little review and tutorial on that Ipad running Garmin bluecharts some time. Looks like something Santa could bring down the ole fireplace chimney this season? Great report and glad everything went well, JC

Just a quick question on the Ipad. Does either, or both, Garmin Blue Charts and Actiove Captain work without WiFi. I have it on my ipad and have been playing with it for route planning but have not taken it on the boat yet. If they pull up as a download without WiFi it would be great, particularly the Active Captain info for information.

Yes to both. Used extensively outside of cell range. Active captain database is downloaded once then an incremental update each day.

Did some screen prints just now, going to start another thread on how I used it, probably later tonight.

I would be interested in how this is done. I have tried to install on my tablet, but something is amiss.

I installed the app last night after FootballFan's comments. I'm very impressed. The ActiveCaptain content loads seamlessly. Now I wish it would talk to my Raymarine equipment. I guess I'll just mount my iPad!

We had set aside $5-6k to replace our 14 year old chartplotter/radar with current technology. But we liked Bluechart on our ipad mini so much during out last trip to Charleston. So we are buying a $629 ipad Air for the boat and mounting that to the helm and putting the rest of the money towards other things.

Ipad with cell models have built-in GPS. Thus, even out of cell range, the GPS is tracking and is moving you along the charts saved in the App's database.

Mark,
Loved the pics. Thanks for sharing.

Really like the BlueChart software. You can also use the Dual GPS with a non-cellular iPad. It connects seamlessly to the iPad and tracks really well I just leave it on the dash. Then took Turtle's advice and got a sea sucker with a RAM mount and an otter box case for it. Works great!
