On the way to Florida.

Got in town with the boat, spent a couple of days provisioning, setting things up. Went through the mental agony of - why are we putting this much "stuff" on the boat...

Left out Friday morning and went south on the ICW from Wrightsville, across Snow's Cut, and then down the Cape Fear river. Pulled into Bald Head Marina for the night on Friday.

Lo and behold, I floated into a CSR party - well, it seemed like a party to me. Matt and Reese were there with some others. We wound up in the same general vicinity on the docks.

Was great meeting and visiting with them.

Saturday morning we left Bald Head and went to Charleston.

NE wind, so we had following seas all day - until we turned into the Charleston ship channel to come in. Wasn't sure just what was along the shore after Cape Romaine, so came into the channel out around R6. Was a bit of a hike to get into the Jetties.

We lengthened the trip from Bald Head to Charleston a bit by following the curve of the coast line for a ways. Was trying to stay in the lee side of Cape Fear for a while to get help with waves.

Coming across, we did have some waves - but pretty low frequency. I would say everything we picked up from forecast sources was pretty accurate.

Leaving shortly, headed to Hilton Head.

Will start getting some pictures uploaded in a day or so.

Mark

Enjoy Hilton Head. Are you staying there overnight? Which marina?

Sounds like a great adventure! Have fun, take it all in, be safe and post lots of pictures.

It was great meeting you in Bald Head. We headed out today for home. 3-4ft chop in Cape Fear river. Enjoy your journey south. Reis and I enjoyed meeting another CSR.

Was great to meet you, glad you have a decent trip to Charleston. Keep us posted on the progress. Beautiful boat by the way

Def. stay outside after Hilton Head until you get to Florida.
....

Why is that? Skinny water? I only needed to go outside in one area (5 years ago) in Georgia but was mostly fine. I plan on heading down in about a month and looking for insight... Thanks

Ok, we like charleston, stayed another night. Leaving for Hilton head on Monday. We decided to be flexible, adjust along the way.

staying at harbortown Monday night. Then Tuesday thinking we will go down to st Augustine.

Any marina recommendations in st Augustine?

goal is to make it to south Fl by the end of the week.

Knot quiet. Bahamabreius.

Thank you both for being so welcoming as we passed through, look forward to seeing you next year.

Mark, You guys be safe and call if you need anything! Have a great time, JC

Re Georgia, it's just an opinion...... Narrow channels and shoaling. It's also a winding channel. So, in my opinion, you can make better time outside. Check Active Captain.

Re St. Augustine. The city marina is close to town and nice. Another nice marina is Commache Cove. Friendly staff and a loaner car.

Left charleston this morning headed down to harbor town at Hilton head. For a while last night considered charleston to ferdinina, but decided that was a longer day than we wanted.

We came in port royal, along the north side of Hilton head, hit the ICW around the backside of the island down to harbortown. Ok, got the ICW part out of the way, back out the lower sound to the outside in the morning.

We are getting tired of the rain. Really tired of the rain.

Seas were nice today, following 1-2 ft, little bumpy when we turned west at Port Royal and caught on the beam.

Boat is running really nice. We had changed out raw water pumps before leaving, long with some other items, purring along. Running 25-2650 most of the time, temps staying in the low to mid 170's. Burn rate around 44-48 gallons per hour. Staying around 20 knots.

Sat was much bigger water than what we had today.

I am falling in love with the radar, as I am starting to understand it more.

Have some pictures, but haven't taken a ton, cause - did I say - it has been raining. Lol, will put pics up when I get my laptop out.

Will keep posting as we go,

Mark

The is a front stalled across Florida right in your path……..might want to hang out there for another day and check the weather this time tomorrow. We've had the same weather here since Saturday and I"m enjoying it with my boat tied to a pole at the marine.

Mark,

Thanks for sharing your journey with all of us.

Not sure what you have taken pictures on but if it is your iPhone or iPad the Photobucket app is an amazingly fast and easy way to post those pictures.

Mark, Glad its going well. Sorry its been raining but I doubt its diminished the excitement of bringing that beauty to Florida. I am excited for you guys. Pictures would be great (when possible).
Again, if you need anything do not hesitate to yell. Have fun, enjoy the trip because these memories will last a life time, JC

I never minded the rain.... kept a lot of people off the water.

I see you are planning on running outside tomorrow. You might want to heed Frank's advice.

In case you haven't seen this:

Forecast:

Tuesday North winds 15 to 20 knots. Seas 3 to 5 feet. Inland waters a moderate chop. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.
Wednesday Northeast winds 10 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet. Inland waters a light chop. Isolated showers in the afternoon.

How far down are you traveling?
