key switch on ignition breaker on no voltage at coil starter switch will kick it over and it will fire until you release the starter switch both engines the same
13vdc at switch and breaker nothing on the coil. checked engine harness connector pin 5 nothing. where do I look next what am I missing?

Sounds like it could be the Ballast Resistor... Jump it out if it starts and stays running when you let go of the key, Change it !

That's the firsthing i thought of. But i realized the ignition voltage wasn't getting to the engine when i checked for it on the engine harness connector. I need the wiring diagram for the boat. I have one for the motors but the boat is still a mystery. Also i can't locate the resister. I have 4 wires on the positive side and i followed the until they entered the bundle not finding the resister.
 
So you have the Mercruisers not the Crusaders ?

If it's the Merc. I'm not sure where it would be !

Check both sides of the main harness connector, maybe it is getting to the connector but feeding thru it to the other side.
