Hi all,

I have a pair of drop in Mercs 7.4L MPI's 2001 models in my 390 Sea Ray 1989 EC. Just over 600 hours on each and neither has ever had a problem before. I've seen and been on board of the previous owners boat and they are emaculate as to condition and running. Both are now in my boat. Port engine was easy and kicked over one time, however had to reverse pump on BW tranny due to shaft not spinning. Shaft now spins but when in forward boat goes in reverse. I've tunned this down to changing the props over as one was a right prop and the other was a left prop. I could be wrong, any suggestions?
Now on to the starboard engine. Turns out that the harness from the dash was different from the harness on the engine. After a little messing around with the angle of the harness (I shouldn't have done that) the engine attempted to kick, but I pulled it off before it could actually start. Could I have shorted a circuit somewhere maybe? Seeing that she almost kicked over I figured I could try a little Maguyver move by cutting the harness up from the dash and sticking the plugs in seperately to get her going. Unfortunately she will not kick anymore. I mangaged to obtain another harness from the dash (the right one) and have since spliced the wires to match the new one inclusive of matching the harness on the engine. Unfortunately, the engine still will not start. When I turn on the port engine you hear the fuel pump engaging, but this does not happen with the starboard engine. Could it be that the fuel pump is gone? I tried to hot wire her by touching the starter with a screwdriver, she wants to kick over but she won't. To sum it up, I was told its either the ignition, the neautral safety switch or a certain fuse somewhere on the engine harness. Can someone give me a little expert advice on this please? I can go on one screw, but nothing beats having both screws operational.

Thanks all.

I will W.A.G. the fuel pump relay (on top of motor)...they are known trouble makers.
