I have 1996 26' SeaRay with Mercriuser 7.4L MPI engine. Engine was rebuild 350h ago.
It starts with no problem at the beginning of the day I go for a while when I stop the engine for few minutes it starts again and few minutes later it just stalls. Then I have to wait sometimes 2 sometimes 50 min to start the engine again. Starter moves the engine but it won't start unless some time passes.
What can it be ? Please help

I changed fuel filter, spark plugs, zincs, rusty buss bars and it still happens

Vapor Lock? Fuel line passing near a hot surface somewhere? Just an idea to check. Wishing You Good Luck and hope you find the issue.

Does vapor lock mean fuel vapor gets trapped in the fuel line?
If yes what should I do? Insulate fuel lines?

You are basically correct, the fuel boils and creates vapor gaps that block the contiuous smooth flow of fuel to the carbs or injectors. Depnding on if this is your issue or not, the best idea is to locate the area that is affected and maybe relocate/reroute the line. since you had a rebuild a few hours back,do you remember if this happened before? The fact that it starts cold and runs fine, but restarts briefly hot then stalls is what made me think it might be vapor lock. It may be when the engine was reinstalled they ran the fuel line differently.

Did you replace the sensor in the dist? Check the fuel pressure? Check the fuel filter in the carb? When she does run, any trouble getting her up to speed or does she kinda flounder at a certain RPM?

So I called previous owner to ask if that happened to him(I bought the boat 1.5 month ago). He said it happened before engine rebuild but not after. He advised me to run a bilge blower to lower engine compartment temperature while the engine is on . So I was very eager if this works and took a boat out again today. Same route same stops same length stops.I was really happy because it didn't stall at all.
I juts hope it will stay like that. This was only first run.
I will reroute fuel lines and install insulated ones anyway since part of t hat line is aluminium and runs right on the engine.

What is dist? I changed fuel filler yesterday as well as spark plugs. No trouble about nothing else that what I explained. She runs great until l stop and start again

Something else you may want to check the vents and make sure they are bring in the fresh air and expelling the bad. I had found mine to be not working very well due to torn an dry rotted vent hoses.

Where are those wents located?

If she has blowers in the bilge she has external vents near the stern along both sides of the boat. She should have forward facing and reward facing. Let me find some photos of your age boat and I will tell you more

Found them. Do you have a owners manual for your boat? If not email me and I will send you a copy. Then go to page 26, it shows the intake and exhaust tubes

If it keeps vapor locking, there is a kit you can buy that is a second fuel pump that installs before the spin on fuel filter that will eliminate the problem

I will definitely check it out. If bilge blower cooling and rerouting fuel lines won't work it will be another step. Thank you.
Do you know where can I find it. Maybe a link please ?

I sent you an email. Thank you.

As soon as I get the mail I will send the manual. It seems to have a great deal of info for you.

So yesterday I took the boat out for the whole day and stalling happened again. Twice after 1h brake on the water. I ran the bilge blower all the time when engine was on. After restarting engine ran perfectly for two hours without stopping.
My next step will be adding another bilge blower that brings the air in aimed directly on the engine and replacing/rerouting fuel line. Also insulating it.

Thx for the video. My engine is acting little different though. It restarts after a pause and goes for 3-10 min and then dies. Then I have to wait up to 1.5h to restart it (as if it needs to cool down) and then I can go for x amount of time till I stop for a while again.
i will definitely consider changing IAC valve
