I have a 201 340 DA. In the last month or so I have noticed a black stain on the seats where the canvas is rubbing. Can't tell if it is the white rubbing off or if it is mold or what is happening? Any similar experiences? Any ideas on removal?
New to this site. Thanks for any help.

I had the same problem on my 280 a few weeks ago. I was getting a purplish stain on the rear seat bolster where the blue cockpit covers rubs. I am pretty sure it was caused by excess vinyl protectant reacting with the cover dye. The stains came off with some eraser pads and elbow grease and exposure to the sun. I have been putting a towel across the bolster to avoid this going forward.

Very recent thread on stains. Good info about what to use and what to stay away from: http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=23080

The vinyl "wearing away" won't turn black. Besides, you'd be able to tell if it's truly worn if you look closely. The only way the canvas (assuming you have Sunbrella) might make a mark is if it's really rubbing hard - very loose. Even then, that type of material is colorfast and shouldn't wear off like that. I'm not saying it's impossible, but a more likely scenario would be as mentioned above with a chemical involved. That's if that color turns out to be from the canvas.

I placed a line that had a "rusty" metal clip on it, and it left a few stains on the seat.

I used the Mr Clean Eraser. It got most of it out...but I can still see it.

Any suggestions?

Thank you for your response. After further review it looks more like the vinyl or the finish is wearing away. The top is original. I had the canvas guys out in the spring because I was thinking of replacing it. They said it was fine for a another year or so. It isn't. When it rains the water gets through in areas that touch the boat. The top is very tight, especially where it hits the top of the captians chair and the back seat, whihc is where the wear is appearing. Any thougths. Someone said there is a vinyl paint that works well. I am open to ideas.
