Well, we really don't have spring here but it was 87 degrees here today. I finished polishing and waxing the boat for the second time this year.

I have a couple of scratches or light scuffs in the color gelcoat. Rubbing compound doesn't fix them. I didn't find a thread on how to deal with these situations. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

First try using compound w/ an orbital polisher.

Ifin that removes it, where hand polishing doesn't, then good.

Otherwise the scratch may be sanded out.

Start w/ 400 and work to 2,000 grit, followed by wet sanding. Follow w/ compound on the polisher.

Examine the hull from shallow angles and from a distance to verify the fix. It may be required to repeat the process.

Fishnut - it really depends on how deep the scratches are. If it is something you can catch your fingernail in then you aren't going to be able to remove them completely but may be able to lighten them up so they are less visible. Have any pictures?

Dang, were atleast another 2 or 3 months away from high 80's.

Did you try “Finesse-It” by 3M? I have used it on mine. I was told never to use rubbing compound on the colored gel surface.

If you can catch the scratch on your fingernail then you're best bet will be a gelcoat repair kit. Very easy and will blend perfectly.

This is not correct.

Which part? The "I was told" or the "not to use"

I agree. You can use it. I had the Dark green colored hull on my 230OV. I used compound on it then you need to take the steps to repolish the area. Works good but there are several applications to get back the lustre.
