Spring Buff - product change

The progress continues.

I started cutting above the rub rail with Restructure and absolutely love it. It remind me of the imperial polish from 3M before they messed with it and rebranded, but seems to break down into a finer polish than the imperial ever did. It leaves holograms, but that’s expected and will be cleaned up with elevate and ignition

25 hours in so far…probably 25 more to go.

You white guys have it so easy…..white privilege I call it :)

Are you flirting with the idea of cheating on Smoove….. just because something looks pretty doesn’t mean you can live with it….. :)

Haha, I haven't ordered it just yet.

Easy...but the blue looks sooo damn good.

i bought restructure for our top sides where I only need a light cut. Level-R is very heavy and more aggressive that I need

Thanks! Did you buy 16 or 32oz bottles of it all?

@Carver370 @Shaps what are your thoughts on Restructure vs Level-R?

Waiting for @Blueone to hold an intervention any minute now LOL.

haha! I did 16oz but I should have bought more because my non-skid is eating it up like crazy. It goes a very long way on the smooth surfaces

Thanks. Aside from that one area I'm in good shape so don't want to go overboard (if I pull the trigger) but I have a 15% off code so now is the time.

Interesting, Starke describes the Level-R as their extra heavy cut compound and their Restructure as their heavy cut compound.
I haven't tried the Restructure but i liked the results from the Level-R. Where needed, I went from that to elevate and ignition.

Edit:
I always buy the 32 oz. I guess i'd rather have too much than run out.

Interesting discussion on the topic of size :)

It turns out I've used almost exactly 32 ounces of the Bubble Gum to do my entire boat, hull and topside. I probably used 25 ounces of the "Pro Cut" compound on everything above the rub rail. I was applying it quite liberally on the non-skid to get any kind of shine...

The Level-R is a heavier cut compound than Restructure. Judging by your area, you can probably get away with a small bottle of the Restructure and it should bring it right back. I would NOT wet sand that area unless you have zero luck with the Restructure.

I would get a fresh white wool pad on a rotary, apply the product liberally to that area, before hitting it with the polisher at a low rpm (1200-ish) spray it with a mist of water to lubricate the area so you do not burn it. All of these heavy compounds are very gritty and if you allow the area to heat up too much, you ARE going to burn it. I would make a few passes and see what you get, I suspect you are going to quickly realize that you probably will need to do the entire blue area because that one section is going to look much darker.

The next step is up to you on how you want to proceed to get the finish that you want. I would then use Elevate at a low rpm on with a clean white wool pad, and follow up with Ignition on a dual action polisher and a foam medium density pad.

Cheat on Smoove, its worth it. I have tried every product you can imagine, the people who formulated Starke products are detailers who were looking for something better, and they nailed it.

Bet the detailers never tried Smoove :p

You know all this product probably comes from the same two production facilities. Both probably owned by 3M. Slap a new label on it, get a bikini model to market it, presto-the next new product we all have to try :)

Too funny. @Blueone I haven't spent a dime yet... but IIRC that's how Smoove came to be. @Stee6043 saw my boat...he knows Smoove makes a shiny boat!

Thanks for the details @Carver370. Very tempting to just call your fiance to squeeze me into her schedule though...

I taped off two areas and did one with 3M imperial/finesse-it and the other with restructure/elevate. Zero noticeable difference

once I used ignition I could see better depth, but that was true when I did both test areas with it. It’s slightly finer than finesse-it which explains the results

I think Starke is easier to use than 3M, specifically I had frustrations with finesse-it since it’s a glaze. Aside from that i still say it’s more about the time and attention to detail than the product.

my guess is a third test section with Smoove would have been the same thing - excellent results.

I'm betting I've never used enough product / worked it long enough then. I'll likely use the tips above with Pro-Cut and see how it looks....I do have a bottle and a half of it still....and I'm impressed with how it's cleaned up other areas - not just this section of blue. And I refuse to buy everything under the sun like some folks here - @Blueone cough cough.

When I became sold on Smoove - I sold the Presta I had.... trying to keep my shelf space clear!

My 3" rotary and pads arrive later today...so we will see...

Ohh man that 3" was an absolute game changer for me this year. Gunnels, around deck fittings...yeah, that's the ticket right there.

It's not that any product magically works better to remove oxidation better than another, it's the ease of use and what it and leaves behind. Nobody can tell me that Elevate isn't easier to use than Finesse it or Presta, not to mention the lack of dust.

yeah, finesse-IT is tough

I just finished the arch and smal;l section below the window on our port side with the 3" rotary, great results and I didn't lose a limb or fall in the water. win/win/win
