I keep seeing the banner ad for "Magic Rinse" www.magicrinse.com. Does anyone use this (or similar)? I'm thinking more for the use with dark colored vehicles. It sounds logical as it's supposed to remove the minerals, which is what leads to spots. I do have a water softener at home, but it doesn't completely solve the problem. Just curious if anyone is using a product like this and do you think it's worthwhile? Most times when I wash, I keep spraying the car/truck/boat/whatever to keep already cleaned areas wet until the end (so those areas don't dry up). Then I come back with a squeegee and a towel and work like a madman to get all the water off before it dries... kind of a pain.

Dennis we have a Sun-Pure SP-200 whole house UV air filtration unit installed in our home for 10 years they make a ClearWave® Salt Free Water Conditioner that we are going to have installed. We have a lot of minerals in our water if I wash the car it looks like it has a mud film on it, this unit is guaranteed no spotting but I haven't had it installed yet. I would look into this for your whole house.

The ClearWave Water Conditioner generates a series of electromagnetic waves that affect hard water particles so that they are unable to stick to each other, pipes, or fixtures. These enhanced microscopic particles then contact existing scale and cause it to loosen, break down, and dissolve.

I was in Newport, RI a couple of years ago. The crews on the 100+ footers used something that looked like a scuba tank to run both the wash and rinse water through. Maybe there is a pro captain here who knows the brand. If not, call a place like Palm Beach, FL.

Dennis,
Alot of the guys on my dock use the these: http://softwetspot.com/ guess they work work well at home also.
I'm on the fence, still debating if I want to buy one for the boat.

I used a CR Spotless (large) system with my Blue 280DA. Worked great but went through Resin quickly. Its a lot of boat to wash, trying to be conservative with water flow. I think it would work much longer if washing cars with it.

Cool. It sounds like the technology works. Thanks for the links and the information, guys. I'll look through everything there. Still balancing whether I want to get one, or not - but at least I know it won't be a futile buy.

Dennis, a low tech process I use is to dry my PWC with a towel that has a little vinegar on it. it keeps the spots off and will not hurt the wax or finish. You just need to wipe before it dries out.

Dennis, I got a Spotless a couple of years ago. It definitely helps, but not perfect. I find that I still have spots on the eisenglass as much as ever, but very few on the hull, topsides and windshield.

I have one of the scuba tank looking units and use it to wash, rinse and fill the water tanks when we are not using the onboard water maker. The softener helps to reduce spots, but I still like to squeegee/dry to get the best outcome. For onboard water, it eliminates clogged faucet strainers and makes my wife says it is great for her hair.

Mine is a Yachtmate unit.

The poor man's solution and my secret is to use Turtle Wax Zip Wax. I use it and it keeps the wax on and the spots off.

How long does the turtle wax stay on before you need to re-apply it? I can always use a good lasting wax.

I use Zip Wax in my bucket with a little boat soap every time I wash. I still dry the entire boat ASAP!

Sounds like there's lot's of options.

Vinegar... hmmm....

It may at least keep me from having to run around like crazy trying to dry it before the water evaporates?

Was told to use this on the hull to keep the water spots at bay. Haven't used it yet, can't say how well it works. One clarification, it was the Turtle Wax 'Zip Wax' Car Wash I was told to use instead of the regular boat soap. Not sure adding wax to the wash water would do much good.
